German Naval Bismark

Bismarck’s pronouns are Sun/Ken

Yeah I know that but it seems off in War Thunder, I’m not sure why but war thunder’s ingame calculator seems too far from what was observed IRL.

Geez Just referring to the Bismarck as it was and it’s just weird to say Admiral Bismarck name then her/she after it

Battle of Denmark Strait wasn’t Hood vs. Bismarck.

One German BB (Bismarck) and a cruiser (Eugen) vs. two british BC/BB (Hood and PoW) + two british cruisers (Norfolk, Suffolk).

So, on brit side were one modernized interwar BC and one modern fast battleship vs. just the Bismarck and Eugen. Hood was sunk and PoW was damaged and suffered alot technical difficulties. The most serious ones were inoperable main gun turrets. Thats why PoW broke off the action and escaped behind a smoke screen. Luckily Admiral Lutjens’ top priority was to break through into the open Atlantic, otherwise the Prince of Wales would have been sunk as well.

I mean, boats have always been referred to as “she”

Helicopters on boats however… 🤨

Bismarck wasn’t or isn’t an Admiral

Please say that wasn’t what you were trying to say

Your right my Mistake still I’ll leave it that the guy Bismarck was named after was male and thats why the germans refred to the bismarck as male

Only that Bismarck suffered extensive damage herself. One of POWs shells went straight through the thickest part of Bismarks protection and flooded a boiler room and destroyed a breaker room. Which meant her speed dropped below POWs.

You mean a 1920s BC that only had minor aa refits.

Calling a KGV a fast BB is a joke I hope

Which both had no treaties to comply with during design and construction which means they are way higher in displacement (even if it meant that their displacement efficiency and armament for their displacement was ridiculously bad)

on that point weren’t the King George V class still made to comply with the London Naval Treaty and so consequently were forced to mount 14in guns and displace 35,000 tonnes)

Yes

From memory the definition of a “Fast Battleship” is a Battleship capable of going faster than 25 knots.

The KGV’s along with the US navy’s North Carolina class can both do 28 knots so they rate as such.

So, Bismarck, a 15in warship (not a treaty vessel) and Prinz Eugen (not a treaty vessel either), both of which were modern warships, both would’ve been in contravention of the London Naval Treaty had Germany been signed to it, fought:

HMS Hood (Admiral Class, late WW1 construction, not really modernised) and HMS Prince of Wales (brand new warship, but built to treaty standards, therefore limited to 35,000t and 14in guns)

Hood was lost because the Government/Admiralty cheaped out in the 1920s and budget cuts happened (do they seriously never learn) and so she had deck armour that could’ve been sneezed on and penetrated, and while yes PoWs guns broke down, none of the gun failures were due to enemy action.

I mean from what I read up on, Montanas weren’t meant to be “Fast Battleships” yet were expected to make 27kts under ideal circumstances and full power.

NC and KGV are both fast battleships, always had been.

Yes, but Bismarck had still all its guns operational + Eugens torpedo barrage. Even with one boiler missing, Bismark was still faster than PoW. They would have sunk her, PoWs main armament took 4h to repair. Time enough I’d suppose. Luckily Admiral Lutjens was one of the worst Germany had. He strictly followed the script without considering new tactical developments. Admiral Marschall would have sunk the whole british Task Force^^

Fairly certain the issue with the main guns was them just failing and not due to battle damage

Whats the difference. PoW would have been mostly defenseless.

Which means that PoW was fighting with a handicap. Yes, Bismark may have been able to sink her as well. But if we are talking about Bismark vs KGV in War Thunder, then unless they model the gun issues (which I wouldnt put it past them) then the outcome could be different

They will be incredibly inaccurate for no fucking reason

Nah 14 inch guns are currently the ones with the lest dispersion if looking at the Japanese 14 inch per example

Fingers crossed being only 14 inch, they wont have that nerf… but this is Gaijin + Britain we are talking about… So…
