On the German premium Mi-24P you can select one of 3 modifications at once, flare/chaff CMs, IRCM, or HIRSS. But the CM and the HIRSS seem to be permanently installed no matter what system you pick. Is this a bug in some way?
In case of CM pod is just a left-over from older times then CM were a properly researchable and installable thing. But, turns out, not having CM installed by default and fighting highly agile missiles is not fan (who would have guessed)

Not like flares matter, all IR SAMs except the MIM-72 has undefeatable IRCCM

Are you test driving the vehicle after selecting the modifications installed?
Make sure you use “current” option on the test drive menu.
If it’s happening in an actual battle though it’s probably a bug
Its in actual battle. The HIRSS and CMs are always there, so I installed the IRCM because its the only one that isn’t permanent it seems. The HIRSS and IRCM don’t seem to work though, keep getting hit by MANPADs
U need to understand the system first the ircm and the HIRSS are backwards facing, they csnt influence side or frontal locks.
They are supposed to provide safety while retreating
Besides that modern Manpads have IRCCM, so they mostly ignore it either way
the HIRSS does certainly affect forwards

HIRSS on the Mi-24 essentially redirects exhaust gases into the rotor blades to dissipate the heat faster, it doesn’t work in any particular direction. Or it shouldn’t anyway.
Countermeasures are now stock on everything, it might be possible to uninstall the HIRSS through the Offensive Armament table in modifications, it’s next to secondary weapons selection in the modifications tree.
I don’t know why you would want to though.
