General Japanese & Thai Ground Forces Discussion HQ

Ayo. they really planning on making this vehicle (the one on the left)? because it will be extremely useful for GRB around 9.7 maybe or 10.0 with the Stormer AD. Probably 10.3.

Off-putting, but the rear turret baskets of the TKX and TKX(P) in-game do not align with their damage model, and said damage-model is lopsided at the section where it meets the turret.

  • On a slightly-related note, Kawasaki unveiled a C-UAS laser system back in 2023.
2KW laser mounted on a Kawasaki Mule Pro-FX. Source indicates the laser system is mounted on a gimbal with an IR system. Sources argue whether the effective range is 100m or several hundred meters. This was planned to be followed up with a 100KW laser likely mounted on a trailer-type vehicle.

  • At the same time, MHI also presented their C-UAS mounted on a MAV, as well as drones shot down using their system. Currently (as of 2023) only at 10KW but able to engage targets up to 1.2KM.

See the following video of the system at work:

What are the ranges and effectiveness against jets, helis and air to ground ordinances like cruise missiles? Or they only specifically designed to counter drones?

What’s the second vehicle from the left and the third vehicle from the right here?

the left one is Type 92 Mine Clearance Vehicle
and the right is just another Type 90

Thank you!

I believe the two systems mentioned above are for anti-drone use for now due to the low KW, given that a similar system is being tested on a US Navy ship against larger vehicles at 60KW, more powerful than seen with both KHI and MHI at the time. (Correction: Unsure why I thought the KHI and MHI systems were using MW, lack of sleep I guess)

The ATLA one could be a more powerful laser though.

I am a bit confused, is this new prototype using the 10kW laser rather than the 100kW one? And if so are there any ongoing plans for the larger device, considering it too was planned to be implemented on a vehicle?

The JSDF are currently researching three types of anti-air laser systems. The one showcased this time is presumed to be the one at the bottom of the diagram.

Interesting, do we happen to know what the missile defense system entails? Lasers are a really finicky idea for the game so I’d imagine we’d need the most powerful available to be of much use.

The laser for countering missiles is currently in the planning stage, while lasers for countering small drones with 10 kW output and for countering UAVs and mortar shells with 100 kW output have been manufactured.

The anti-missile type is expected to receive funding and enter the research and development phase after the completion of the 10 kW class model, likely around 2025 (R7) or later.

Slightly more protection for the crews from top attack, better safe than sorry…

Is there any info on whether the Type 89 has any form of optical tracking?

Is they really sit like this IRL?
