General Japanese & Thai Ground Forces Discussion HQ

Quite convenient that at about 10:30 you can see both Type 87’s and Tan-SAM’s radars rotating. Might actually pass for a bug report.

Compared to Type 81, Type 11 may have radar performance or advantage

We are going to need far, far larger maps for these things to be added. Playing the tansam now i can barely leave the safety of my spawn zone before getting killed from an HE shell from 1.5km away.

Yeah but i doubt gaijin will properly model that
They havent even modelled the ARH of the 81 its just a copy paste 120 seeker still like most top tier missiles are

Do the Tan-SAM and Type 03 use the same radar?
Cause i dont see the Tan-SAM radar spinning at all in that video But i do see the truck is sitting in the background on the left they just never seemed to turn its radar on while the 87 and 03 both are running

No, they uses totally different radars with different turning speed

As you said at this video we see Type 11’s radar on the left and it stopped turning at the moment when we see it. It is not turned off but mostly changed to sector scanning mode where radar doesn’t move

The turning speed of both radars are different. It is 10 RPM for Type 11 (same for Type 81) and 45 RPM for Type 03

Cant the Tan Sam radar stop rotating when locking onto targets though or it just scans none stop rotating?

Yes, it does stop rotating when tracking a target.

The fact that Gaijin didn’t model this bothers me so much right now…

Tbh it stops not when target tracking like ZSU-23-4 radar do but it just stops and scanning whole sector with tracking targets in TWS like modern planes with AESA/PESA radars

And here I thought this would go somewhere:

So its just a missing scanning mode that Gaijin has yet to add to it.

I’ve wondered one thing… Does it even track in full 360° search mode?

I’m mainly asking because having a pure search mode and more control over if you lock a target at all would be very useful in game to use with datalink missiles for LOAL. It would be ideal to have a pure 360° search mode alongside a TWS track mode that still gives search info for 110° field while tracking a target. If this isn’t how it works in reality I understand (even if turning the radar on and off is annoying), but if it is this might be really helpful in game.

Would be a lot better than the way it currently functioning at least.

Is this a specification? :(

The mysterious IFV…

How can the missile miss this badly???
Doesn’t make sense, and Active Radar Homing (ARH) isn’t even locking onto it…
