Small buff for type 89.
Type 89— the ability to load another missile without shooting the already loaded one has been added.
Some changes regarding the Tan-SAM kai:
ARH missile
- lowered drag
- increased max range ( 10 km → 14 km)
Spoiler
Radar
- besides the normal 360 degrees search mode, the radar now has an area search mode (110 degrees horizontally), though it needs fixing as the entire radar antenna is rotating despite the area scan only being electronical
Spoiler
- the radar antenna supports are now modelled correctly
Spoiler
- the radar antenna doesn’t fold down when turned off - probably will be fixed in the future
- radar got TWS ESA mode
Launcher
- when operating the entire system from the TADS vehicle, only one launcher launches a missile, not both at once
- when operating the entire system from the TADS vehicle, you can choose manually which launcher you wan’t to fire
Spoiler
- you can change the missile type without having to fire all the missiles of the previous type
Spoiler
The are also some changes to the Anti-Air Interface, but that’s the case for all top tier AA.
All it needs at this point is to fix the above mentioned issues (rotating antenna in area scan and the radar antenna not folding when turned off) and IOG + DL and LOAL for the IR missile.
Bug report regarding the low visibility smoke that should be present on the SAM-1C missiles. There’s been a few reports already, but we gotta keep trying.

it just got fixed, it now has it’s proper 14km range
It looks like it got less drag but the motor itself hasn’t been changed?
What’s the vertical search angle now?
70 degree
Both missiles we have are the Type 81 (C) missile, just with lightwave and radar seeker respectively.
We don’t have any Type 81 / Type 81 (B) missiles yet that would have a weaker motor.
Very nice.
Beacouse it can’t function without radar
I don’t believe I’ve seen any photos of this tank without the 25mms yet, but the tilt of the guns tells me that it wasn’t attached very well.
In fact, the guns seem to be placed right on top of if not inside the engine bay, which is of course not acceptable for standard operation.

Because the Type 81 (B) (and the base model Type 81, since the missiles are identical) would be terrible 11.3s.
They’d have a weaker motor, beinging the range down to 7km (5km effective). Their seeker is also worse, being only a regular IR seeker with no optical guidance and worse IRCCM.
There’s also no ARH version of these missiles, so what you see is what you get and the range isn’t getting any better.
And as if this wasn’t already bad enough, the launchers aren’t a self contained system anymore, so if your FCS vehicle is destroyed, so are the launchers.
The launchers can still function independently (thanks Skultew)
It would not be a good 11.3 with this performance
From what i could find online the 81C ARH variant on top of the new seeker also recieved a motor upgrade in order to hit that 14km range
although gaijin has not implemented it
As I know ARH variant has same motor as IR + TV so only difference should be in seeker type
It got upgraded motor in compare to older Type 81 and Type 81B
Extra range might be just due to the new seeker.
Just a small spoiler; I made suggestions for Type 03 and Type 03 Kai, both are pending, still may take some time to see them.
See theres conflicting information about these missiles and since its japanese its generally hard to find
Like from most sources i can find the type 11 uses the same seeker but has lower range How does that make sense?
Everything i could find is basically 81C got upgraded with the same AESA seeker as the type 11 and got upgraded with a smokeless motor that also improved its range
While the type 11 in some sources has that same motor but in others has a worse one that gives it only the 10km max instead of 14
If any of this is to be believed its either 2 things the 81C was just upgraded to be better than the type 11
Or the 81C was fitted with the same upgrades as the type 11 effectively turning it into a type 11
Only the latter would make sense
But really i just want to find some documents that arent classified that lists all this cause it really is hard to find otherwise
Apparently we already have the one with upgraded engines but that is strange to me because even if the current IR missile could actually lock onto something at 14 km headon, it still wouldn’t have the energy to hit, I think.
They reduced the drag on dev to help it but, I’m not sure how well that will help
Type 81C doesn’t have AESA seeker.
Also I am not sure even about Type 11. It is known that Type 11 got AESA radar on FCS vehicle instead of PESA on Type 81 (all). But I don’t remember anything about AESA seeker
Type 11 and Type 81C motors length and diameter is same and also at TRDI 60th book is said that more difference in missile for Type 11 was new processors and other electronic for faster work but not engine so it looks like engine is the same
Numbers of length is mostly secret and all distance listed can be not correct. The only what looks correct is 14km for Type 81C ARH missile because it was listed in Japanese book and it can be understood from demonstrative shots on videos.
I am sure that range of Type 11 is same or slightly different than Type 81C
But Type 81C is 1996 year modernisation while Type 11 is 2011 year new vehicle
As I said differences on missile is processors but more differences was at vehicles:
- FCS got new AESA radar with all advantages of this type of radar
- Launcher format was changed to another one
