By the way, was there any mention of the hard-kill APS they are/were developing?

Possibly, no details were mentioned other than the potential for upgrading light vehicles and such and the abilities of the RCWS.
I believe Japan is looking to purchase foreign APS, either Trophy, Iron Fist, or StrikeShield. They are not longer continuing development of their own if I remember correctly.

Fixing the Tan-SAM kai would at least make it good enough, right now it’s just sad. Even if it got fixed, IRIS-T would still be much better. After we get SAMP/T and stuff, Tan-SAM kai will be totally obsolete.
Japan needs the Tan-SAM kai to get IOG+DL on the IR missiles, and also needs to have the loadout fixed - for which I made up a temporarily solution: Everything wrong with the Tan-SAM Kai (TADS) - #216 by Shplendyt
Anyway, even if Tan-SAM kai ever works as it should, it would still be way worse. Type 03 Chu-SAM is very needed. What else is needed is BR decompression, or at least having the better SAMs at higher BRs, since Tan-SAM kai can never be as effective as IRIS-T SLM or SAMP/T, so having them all on the same 12.0 BR is just crazy.

But I also fear that the addition of the Type 03 Chu-SAM, or even the kai variant, wouldn’t be good enough. mach 2.5 or 3 ARH missile would be too slow to get to the target before it goes evasive.

Would be a nice upgrade for the new top tier environment
needing a sustained lock for an extended period of time when an iris-T or any other AA to find you and send you straight back to the hangar

Eh depends on if gaijin decides to implement it correctly. Right now 3 nations could get MICA VL. Spuld be better than what those nations have currently.
Yeh but problem is the MICA would be a bit lower in range to what we have now… a bit ago yeh but now launch range has broken 100k Type 03 Chu-SAM would be the next best thing
