It is very historical that Yamato has ‘firecracker’ ammo placement. 2/3 of shell is stored in barbette, 1/3 of shell is stored in hull near or above waterline.
Yamato is very ‘compact’ ship. 72,500 ton is huge number, but not enough number to make battleship with nine 18.1 gun, 410 mm of armor and 27.46 knot speed with traditional armor scheme and safe ammo storage.
So IJN choose ‘cheek’ armor scape which makes her more vulnerable when angled, and ‘firecracker’ ammo storage that most of shells were over waterline.
The only shells above the waterline are the turret no2/3 and secondary shell rooms which constitute a small amount of the total ammo. Think whatever you want about Yamato’s ammo stowage, but it’s objectively wrong as presented in game.
Didn’t I upload the picture from US navy ananlysis diagram of 18’’ turret and shell distribution system? Those shell rooms on your diagram exclude shell room on turret barbette. Game’s one is the most accurate.
Don’t worry, Yamato has 100 shells per gun. Even if you fire the gun once every 30 seconds, it will take 50 minutes to run out of shells. If you cut the shells in half, you’ll be fine… However, in SBEC, the battle time is long, so you may need more shells. (I’ve never been on a battleship.) Do you think it’s worth it to cut the ammunition if you’ve reached the top tier?
Yes, for example, the magazines of the 1st turret should be located on the bottom, but on the screenshot that is shown in the game, they are somewhere almost under the deck
Lets also hope they model all those hundreds of compartments correctly and that the crew wont go out with slightest tilt as Yamato would be just fine even with 20° tilt.
Yeah thats about right. Lets hope gaijin isnt nerfing Yamato like this intentionally. And that they give proper size maps at least 25-30 km spawns for the top battleships that are to come.
Imma be optimist and say they didnt expect leaks to go out so quickly and didnt really model the ammo where it should be yet.
The CDK leak is for sure a work in progress placeholder. The initial leak of USS Colorado on CDK was exactly like this as well: ammo racks were randomly placed around the turret just below the armour deck
