At least as I think I understood the sources, the F86D had a ballistic calculator for missiles, so it shouldn’t be completely useless.
Yeah, IK, for type 2 it has a drum, which limits 42 rounds, and that’s what gaijin believed. The only fighter that has type 5 but also on the wings is A7M3-J, which could take 60/73 rounds for each guns. For J2M.I don’t know how to prove it can take more, unless we have such kind of image, then we can calculate the space( Gaijin rejected using weight to calculate the 30mm rounds)

And another image for Raiden’s type 5(it looks like a drum)
It didn’t use drum, only belt. Here is just feeding mechanism makes it looks like drum
I noticed that J6K1 could take 2 * 30 mm + 2 * 13.2, is that possible for the J6K1 armament?
Does it? That might just be how the belt feed is set up, some cannons have a doodad that makes it look like a kinda drum feed.
In-game no, the current armament is what the mockup had.
I dunno if they’ll accept it lol, probably gonna say “the 6x-20mm mockup is the iteration of the J6K we want yadda yadda” and that’s that. What does the image say, 4x 20mm + 2x 13.2mm?
According to the book 『日本航空機総集 川西・広廠篇』 (“Japanese Aircraft Collection: Kawanishi and Hirosho Arsenal”) the J6K was to be armed with 4 x 20mm or 2 x 30mm in the wings and 2 x 13mm in the fuselage.
The book “Japanese Heavy Fighters 1937-1945” states that initially (June 1944 mockup) the J6K was to be armed with 4 x 20mm cannons in the wings and 2 x 13.2mm Type 3 machine guns at the wing roots, or 2 x 30mm cannons in the wings and 2 x 13.2mm Type 3 machine guns at the wing roots. However, in July 1944 the J6K’s armament was changed to 6 x 20mm Type 99 Model 2 cannons in the wings (200 rounds per cannon) and 2 x 13.2mm Type 3 machine guns at the wing root (200 rounds per machine guns)
Wouldn’t this be the earlier J3K? IIRC a mockup was also built for it and it was slightly different, with Ha-43 engine and less guns.
Kawanishi J3K according to the book『日本航空機総集川西・広廠篇』 (“Japanese Aircraft Collection: Kawanishi and Hirosho Arsenal”) was to have 2 x 20 mm in the nose and 2 x 13.2 mm in the wings.
This armament doesn’t match the mock-up in the photo. And yes, the engine for the J3K was supposed to be the Ha-43.
The navy 20mms shouldn’t be able to be synchronized. Likely it’s the other way around.
Here they say J3N which is a little suspicious. Maybe there were competing projects and they got mixed together, or it’s just a typo. “Tricycle landing gear” also sticks out.
I suppose both designs underwent some alterations while just in paper/mockup forms, and so there’s a lot of conflicting information taken from different periods. The 2x 13.2mm + 2x 30mm armament also seems a little dubious, the J2M was a much smaller plane but they stuck two 30s and two 20s in the wings up from 4x 20mm; around this same time Kawanishi themselves would put 4x 20mm in the Shiden and Shiden Kai.
Could this be spun into Japan getting another j6k?
Would love to see that. Everyone loves a super prop
This J3N seems to me to be just a typo, and it’s J3K.
There are more possibilities to introduce weapon replacement in the J6K, just like we have in the Ki-43.
I hope Gaijin goes over some of the low tier planes Japan has. There where some late war up gunned upgrades that would be very useful. 7.7 mgs don’t cut it sometimes even at low tier so seeing some more ho 103’s would be awesome. Some would get more munitions as well.
