Going for J-10 in 2025 is a political choice more than anything else.
Chineses will become the new world leading country, in the pov of many nations, and it’s currently creating many of todays products sold throughout the globe (even in the USA).
as such going for J-10C or J-10D(supposedly in studies) in 2025 is a way to show political alignement with China.
as it was and still today, to buy US made equipement for the last 60 years.
You can say that, but a key reason why we’re even evaluating it in the first place is because of how cheap it is as well as the Chinese Gov. themselves offering it to us
Re-up again
key thing of note is the final paragraph of that quote
Yeah old news since both the Su-35 and Mirage 2000 have got canned, Indonesia is instead focusing on modernization, it’s the whole reason why they commited to buy even more Rafales and went for the KAAN as well, both the Mirage and even the J-10 were supposed to be interim solutions and only the J-10 seems to have a tiny hope of getting purchased but I highly doubt it since that will create logistical nightmares.
(Edit) Btw I’m not correcting you or anything like that to be clear, just adding on top of your post to reinforce it.
but that hasn’t been the definitive case. The deal from a couple of years ago was just frozen, not cancelled. And it was rumored that the deal was then completed unofficially in April of this year.
There hasn’t been any official mention of it being canned or it being approved but that doesnt mean that its entirely dismissed. It’s similar to the current F-15 deal which has gone cold with no news in months, but are still being discussed internally behind the scenes by the higher ups
Doubt it, everyone knows that in real life the F-15 is the superior fighter, plus the embarrassing performance of the Su-35 over Ukraine doesn’t help its case, but without going too deep into any of that everything remains to be seen, even ingame the Flankers are pretty overrated/overhyped. With Indonesian already having gone for the Rafale the Su-35 is more and more unlikely by the day, they might not even go through with the F-15 given that they’re interested in the KAAN and already got into that, adding more stuff to the mix is gonna be a logistical nightmare
J-10 is extremely cost effective compared to the Rafale. Also a reminder that every military deal is also based off of Politics. Turkey for example is buying F-16Vs just to get back into the F-35 Program.
The F-15EX actually was once pitched to Japan as the F-15FX. It was part of the 5th F-X I believe, however it was not chosen, with the F-35A being selected instead.
The FX would’ve been so peak, wish they had procured it alongside the F-35 as well to fill in for their old Eagles as missile trucks but if only able to choose 1 of them then the F-35 made complete sense for long term capabilities. Not to mention that Japan is the biggest foreign operator of the F-35 and second biggest as a whole, they really went all in
