General Japanese & JASDF General Discussion

Did it start to build before the end of the war?

I’ve found these 2 but they seem to be experimental or something, one of the them looks incomplete, but it would be a good semi-historic camo

I think these are the F-86 30 not the 40, still cool though

At the end of 1944, work began on the A7M3. If I remember correctly, the design work was completed in May and the construction of the first A7M3 began. But I have only a small amount of sources about it (2 books, but not Japanese)

This is the premium one we have ingame

How about the A7M3-J? I just wanna to check if really exists, I know that there is a Japanese book that might mention some details, but it only has a paper version for free to check.

The Japanese started work on the A7M3-J, around mid-1944, and had major engine problems. That’s why they started work on the A7M3, because they thought it would be easier to build. I don’t want to lie to you, but I think they built one incomplete A7M3-J, which was destroyed by American bombing and an earthquake.

Do you have any recommended reading material for that? Basically, I can only find its introduction on Wiki and some websites, I am not sure if you know this: 最後の艦戦烈風 設計の秘密(曽根嘉年), If you have that in electronic or scanned version, then will be really helpful

Information about the A7M3 and A7M3-J can be found in this book.

I only have this book and one military magazine. Unfortunately, these are average sources

You know, i just realized something, by gaijin’s standards for adding weapons to an aircraft (the weapon has to have been in serial production, and must be able to be fitted to an aircraft with nothing more then a bolt on modification, and can technically be used on that aircraft). The GCS-1 can be slapped on like, everything in game.

Like, aside from the stuff that actually used it, it could very well be given to the F-15J/J(M) in game, or in the future things like the T-1 or even F-35 when they come. As, technically speaking, even though they never used them, the GCS-1 is fully functional on all of them. It wouldn’t even need to update the weapons computer on them, literally just throw it on anything that can carry a Mk.82 and has a power umbilical and it works, being a fully LOAL system with no feedback loop with the host aircraft.

GCS-1 from my knowledge is carried on the:

T-2 (Standard and ADTW)
F-1
F-4EJ ADTW
F-4EJ Kai
F-4EJ Kai ADTW
F-15MJ
and F-2A

gaijin’s only reason to not add it currently is “No proof it can track tanks”
(Side Note) GCS-1 Type I and Type II (750kg and 500kg variants) are both fully modelled and fully textured in the live server files. It’s currently somewhat usable (if u test drive it through usermissions) but it is unfinished. - This has been here since 2021, it is now 2025 which is 4 whole years, still not implemented

They added the penguin missile which also don’t have any confirmed A2G tracking function (that I know of) so there’s no excuse not to just add it (please I wanna give US CAS something to think about)

It isn’t carried on F-15s IRL, hence me bringing up why it would be interesting it could be used in game anyways.

And no, they’re not really “somewhat usable” i’ve tested them and depending on how you set them up they either work poorly or flat out don’t work at all. The best i’ve gotten them to work is by changing them to use an AGM launcher interface while having a bomb stat profile, as they kinda work that way. Although some stuff doesn’t work unless you change their stat type to a rocket, but that brings up other issues which more or less completely brick it from being LOAL.

That’s been reported, along with the French AASM Hammer which also shouldn’t be able to track ground targets, so it’s possible that capability will be removed in the future.

the MJ it is usable on

It’s usable on literally everything, as i said, you could literally slap it on a kfir canard and it would be fully usable. The point I was making, is that it can be put on JP aircraft which do not use it IRL according to gaijin’s standards for adding munitions to vehicles. This includes the F-15Js, as due to JASDF doctrine they are not used on F-15J/J(M)s IRL.
