true. it will be interesting to see what the future of active EW is as current platforms get retired. i think it will be handed off to larger drones for the most part
We’re already seeing the start of that with systems such as SPEAR-EW. Stick an offboard jammer on what is effectively a cruise missile with more fuel and fly it around so everyone’s busy looking at that and can’t see your stealth aircraft.
thats smaller scale EW, i mean stuff like the EA-18G’s next generation jammer pods being put on MQ-25’s
Also have not modeled functionality for searching for surface targets. Whilst all of these air to air focuses are nice, it is worth noting that it provides usefulness to surface strikes as well.
I kind of think to add Gen 5s that have to implement some of the systems you’ve mentioned. So I don’t really see the need to delay the addition of Gen 5 if they will add some of the new mechanics with it anyway.
I think that stealth isn’t going to be as effective as some are imagining because of how WT works. In real life there is a lot more information processing and sharing going on to make long range missiles shots viable. Jets sharing info, AWACs, etc. In WT most ARH shots are being done under 40km. I would say people lean more towards 20km.
Lots of jamming can be burned through at these ranges and the closer stealth aircraft get to opposing aircraft the easier it is to get a firing solution. Its my understanding that the F-22 is detectable by aircraft radar at distances under 50km(depending on radar power)
So the power of stealth in the current meta really isn’t going to be the same as in real life.
And of course it all comes down to how Gaijin implements the systems. A lot of people said AESA would be absolutely game breaking and couldn’t come to the game. Only for Gaijin to model it the way they did and for it to be quite fine.
Should more mechanics be added? I think absolutely. Should they wait to add everything before adding Gen 5? I think its not necessary
Yeah they haven’t done that yet. To be fair though developers did a great job modeling like 7 new air to ground mechanics last patch so they should be cut some slack for that, provided it keeps continues to keep coming of course.
F-22 would be strong as a top tier in current meta, without any new mechanics added. only F-35 really needs these reworks to be competitive
Yeah, just don’t want the sensor integrations to be ignored in the air to ground sense. It would be tragic, and unfortunately par for the course for much of the way this project has come together
Better to be safe than sorry and demand these systems now and they get added with 5th gen jets anyway regardless of if we demanded it or not, than to have 5th gen jets added without these systems. Mind you, I would have thought we would see some inkling of some work on these systems if that was the case.
Would have expected more testing around F117, and ESM integration into air on at least one platform, instead of being split out.
well it seems towed decoys are being worked on in some capacity at least.
I think if they just add an F-22 that only has stealth right now to WT it would of course be strong, but not crazy. If the only benefit of how they model stealth is that you’re hard to detect at distances over 40-50km it would certainly be a benefit but I don’t think they need dozens of other systems to combat that 1 perk.
Doesn’t hurt to ask now, and I think they should be added too. There was talk of new missiles being added to combat the new Gen.(in a leak) If some missiles could be guided via IRST for example I think that has potential to be better than stealth.
Really comes down to how Gaijin does stuff. But I’d lean more towards not waiting for F-22/Su-57 :D
The player base was going with the “why-why not” mentality of the dev when they add KH38MT, LDIRCM, SMSV.
But when we use it, the dev was “no bro, that’s a marketing lie”
“No that’s a balancing factor”
Because when NATO top tier ARB in full capability they think it would curb stomp the Sukhois.
Have you ever tried to launch an AMRAAM at an F-117? The seeker itself only locks like a couple kilometres away, making evasion ridiculously easy even without chaff.
It would and will be crazy.
RCS isn’t really fully modeled yet and who knows how they will change things going forward
The F-2 was denied by the community to be added for ages because it had AESA radar and people thought it was going to be too strong. When they finally started adding AESA it was just fine. Right now you can play mechanical vs AESA and it isn’t game breaking.
Everything comes down to how Gaijin models it. Going to google and looking up real world capabilities often doesn’t translate to a video game is all I’ll say
Can’t wait for the poorly implemented 5th gen with a buggy stealth mechanic that randomly either does nothing or makes the plane undetectable, with no electronic warfare to compensate for low cm counts on some aircraft, no good sensors to face stealth…
And Gripen’s MAWS will still be on parity with an F111A.
Agreed. This is apart of Gaijin’s history with rushing to get new vehicles out as soon as possible. There’s nothing wrong with slowly adding more mechanics; ECM, in my opinion, should have been added earlier than it has before it became as advanced as it would have to be now
What? You mean they should have implemented ECM alongside the aircraft that carried reduced countermeasures to rely on electronic defensive practices? Shocking and scandalous proposal.
Potentially my hottest take, yes
Part 2 (new) is added with the former part 2 becoming part 3, and part 3 becoming part 4. Part 5: ESM is in the works.
