That’s inherently more problematic. Think about it this way:
Let’s say you have 3 vehicles. One at 12.7, one at 13.7, and one at 14.7. They’re fairly well balanced.
If you start from the top, you buff the 14.7 vehicle. Shift it up to 15.3 or whatever. Nothing below is affected. Then buff the 13.7 vehicle, move it up to 14.3, the 12.7 vehicle remains unaffected. The 12.7 vehicle can then be buffed and pushed up without consequence. A BR gap is then created, which gives gaijin opportunity to add older, less capable aircraft in that gap that bridge it, hence more diversity within a BR.
If you start from the bottom, you buff the 12.7 vehicle. Now the 12.7 vehicle must be moved up somewhere, but it is in many ways more capable than the 13.7 vehicle as it has features the 13.7 vehicle does not have. Consequently, you must either move the 13.7 vehicle down temporarily, heavily disrupting balance, or move the 12.7 vehicle to 13.7 or 14.0, making it nigh on unplayable. Then when you want to add the feature to the 13.7 vehicle, it is more capable than the 14.7 vehicle. The consequence is the same, a BR step higher, but now either your 12.7 vehicle is too low in BR and must be moved again, or it is too high, and must be moved again. This means that huge reshuffles of the techtree would have to be made without any data to support it.
you arent thinking low enough. I mean the very beginnings of cold war EW, where stuff below hardly even uses radar and the ECM is bad enough it doesnt screw up higher BR too much
Please name any aircraft that has intergrated ESM outside the soviet TT.
I genuinely cant think of any.
(im not including the barely usable ESM provided by AGM-88, if equipped, but actual, usable, fast scan rate, ESM intergrated into the airframe itself, such as the one missing from the EFT, Rafale, Probably Gripen E, and Tornado IDS SLE to name a few)
The context here is using Radar + IRST at the same time. Maybe even ESM ontop of that.
That has not been mentioned anywhere as far as I know.
For many aircraft, sensor fusion is actually a system of its own. In the case of the Rafale, the electronics for the sensor fusion numbers greater than the radar. I imagine it’s similar for EFT, Gripen-E and F-35. The sensor fusion system is inside the aircraft and functions as the “brain” of the different sensors.
Could be argued that the EFT doesnt even have an RWR, MAWS, LWR or ESM. it just has DASS.
though I feel for the context of the post, to keep it a bit smaller, it should just be on using “search” sensors together for now. Then build up from there
i still think it wouldnt be as bad, since it is worse airframes getting worse ECM working its way up and not better airframes getting better ECM working its way down
Part 4 is typed up, just waiting on Flame now for a picture/source of Eurofighter having 360 degree jamming, (in comparison to how F-35 doesn’t have that), as a way to highlight how ECM could benefit Gen 4.5+ whereas Gen 5 mainly relies on its frontal aspect radar to do that while having nothing for egress jamming capability.
The fact that the jammers are only present in the LH wing pod would lead me to believe there’s actually a small deadzone to the right hand side of the aircraft where the fuselage obstructs it.
The offboard jammer present in the TRD likely covers for this.
I assume the assumption made is that non-stealthy loadouts will only be run when all threats that justify stealth have been functionally annihilated. Problem is jamming equipment is big, heavy, and complicated and the F-35 is already more than enough of the three of those lol
