GBU-8 annoys me ,how do i make it work properly? i don't understand it

I’m playing nuclear thunder and i’m having severe problems with the GBU 8 bombs, it takes a lot of pain to make them lock at low altitude and i can’t drop them when i want to like normal bombs, and even if i climb up and actually TRY to drop them as they should, they still fall miles away, despite them having lock.

What am i doing wrong? they are so fiddly to lock…

//Inb4 somebody comes here smartass trying to tell me i shouldn’t try to drop them at low altitude. YEAH i know, do i care? no, it is what it is, they are still bombs.

Had same problem woth the a10 during nuclear april fools. Either you dive to the target or drope it like 1-2 secs delay from the target where the bomb calculator tells you (past the target)

Ironically,it is with the A10 that i’m playing currently

The GBU-8 does horribly with high AOA, so you basically have to drop it 90 degrees down onto the target for it to work. funnily enough, russian bombs with similar control surfaces have no issue…

The GBU-8 doesn’t glide very far, or at all. Like its fins don’t work. (1) Go as top-down as you can, (2) If the target is moving ensure you get the cross [+] and not the empty square [ ] which means you have TV lock.

The GBU-8’s seeker angle is also too shallow so you can’t fly further over the target before dropping, so you have to fly higher and dive over the target. Doing this makes you free food to the AA.

On static targets you can drop without lock and it will follow the GPS coordinate.

But even then, I simply never use the GBU-8 because it’s hot garbage compared to other things, your best bet is taking 6x mavericks and dummy bombs. The Hydra pods are too small to get any worthwhile use out of them.

For gbu8 you need speed, if you use skyhawk or a10 it will not be enough to compensate the bomb weight, even worse at low altitude.
