Gameplay Proposal for Nuclear Thunder – BR 4.0 to 6.7

The proposal is to make Nuclear Thunder matches between BR 4.0 and 6.7 more dynamic, immersive, and closer to large-scale military operations, especially involving bombers, fighters, anti-aircraft defenses, convoys, railways, and active front lines.

1. Bomber Formation Missions

Add special missions where large formations of AI-controlled bombers appear during the battle with the objective of attacking strategic enemy targets.

These formations could include several bombers flying together, creating the feeling of taking part in a real large-scale air operation.

Possible targets could include:

  • factories;
  • ammunition depots;
  • railway stations;
  • bridges;
  • airfields;
  • artillery positions;
  • command centers;
  • military installations.

If the formation successfully reaches and bombs its objective, the team could receive a battlefield advantage or the enemy team could suffer a penalty.

2. Players Could Join Bomber Formations

Before a bomber formation appears on the map, a notification could inform players that a bombing mission is being prepared.

A player using a bomber could select an option to join the formation.

When the mission begins, the player would spawn near the AI-controlled bombers and could fly alongside them toward the objective.

This would allow players who enjoy bombers to participate in large formations instead of usually flying alone across the map.

3. Fighter Escort Missions

Players using fighters could receive a secondary mission to protect the bomber formation.

They could escort the bombers along their route and receive rewards for:

  • destroying enemy fighters near the formation;
  • remaining close to and escorting the bombers;
  • helping the bombers reach their objective;
  • protecting the bombers during their return flight.

This would give fighter escorts a real purpose within the match.

4. Bomber Interception

At the same time, the opposing team could receive a mission to intercept and destroy the bomber formation before it reaches its strategic target.

Fighter players could choose to participate in the interception.

This would naturally create large-scale aerial battles between:

bombers + escort fighters

versus

interceptor fighters + ground-based anti-aircraft defenses.

This system could work similarly to some previous War Thunder events that featured large bomber formations.

5. Flak Batteries Along the Route

The route toward the objective should not be completely safe.

During their approach, bomber formations could pass through areas protected by Flak batteries and heavy anti-aircraft artillery.

These positions could fire at the bomber formation, increasing the danger of the mission.

Ground players could also receive missions to destroy these batteries before the bombers arrive.

This way, an air mission could also create objectives for players using ground vehicles.

6. Railway System

To prevent large areas of the map from feeling empty or inactive, there could be active railway lines operating during the battle.

Trains could transport:

  • ammunition;
  • fuel;
  • vehicles;
  • troops;
  • military equipment.

These trains could travel between different strategic locations on the map.

The opposing team could receive missions to destroy:

  • locomotives;
  • railway cars;
  • railway stations;
  • railway bridges.

Meanwhile, the defending team could attempt to protect these supply routes.

7. Military Convoys

There could also be convoys of trucks and military vehicles moving between bases and frontline positions.

These convoys could transport supplies and reinforcements to troops.

Aircraft players could receive ground-attack missions to destroy the convoys, while players on the opposing team could attempt to protect them.

Destroying a convoy could temporarily reduce the reinforcement capability of a specific area of the battlefield.

8. Dynamic Front Line

The map could feature an active front line, with AI-controlled troops and vehicles fighting each other.

Instead of simply being decorative elements, these units could actively attempt to advance across the battlefield.

Players could support the front line using:

  • tanks;
  • attack aircraft;
  • bombers;
  • fighters.

For example, if an enemy position is preventing allied troops from advancing, players could receive a mission to attack that area.

If the attack is successful, the front line could advance.

9. Attacks on Strategic Positions

Different strategic objectives could appear throughout the match.

For example:

“An enemy artillery battery is attacking our troops. Destroy the position.”

or:

“An enemy railway station is receiving reinforcements. Destroy the station before the train arrives.”

These objectives would make the battlefield constantly change throughout the match.

10. Operations Against Ships

On maps located near the coast, missions involving AI-controlled ships and naval vessels could appear.

For example, a squadron of aircraft or torpedo bombers could receive a mission to attack:

  • transport ships;
  • destroyers;
  • naval convoys;
  • landing craft.

Players could choose to participate in the attack or defend the ships.

11. Boat Squadrons

There could also be squadrons of AI-controlled boats conducting operations near the coast.

They could:

  • escort ships;
  • attack convoys;
  • conduct landing operations;
  • attack coastal positions.

12. Multiple Events Happening Simultaneously

The main goal of this system would be to make the map feel like an actual war taking place, rather than simply an arena where players wait to capture objectives.

During a single match, several events could be happening simultaneously:

  • a bomber formation attacking a factory;
  • fighters attempting to intercept it;
  • escort fighters protecting the bombers;
  • Flak batteries firing at aircraft;
  • a train transporting supplies;
  • aircraft attacking a military convoy.

Players could choose which of these operations they want to support.

13. Special Focus on WWII

This system would be especially interesting between BR 4.0 and 6.7, since this range contains many World War II vehicles that are perfectly suited for this type of mission.

There are many:

  • heavy bombers;
  • escort fighters;
  • interceptors;
  • ground-attack aircraft.

This would better recreate the concept of large-scale military operations, giving each type of vehicle a meaningful role within the battle.

Goal of the Proposal

This system would give bombers, attack aircraft, and escort fighters much more purpose, while also creating cinematic and unpredictable situations in almost every match.

That would instantly be my favorite game mode. Also, would love to see the B-29 in there (and ofcoarse the variants in other trees)
