It seems Gaijin in their infinite wisdom have decided to screw over everyone from “Asia”, Australia and New Zealand yet again.
The search option has been changed to Auto-select (NA North America and SA South Asia). This means people from Asia, Aus and NZ will now be searching for games in USA and Asia servers at the same time. This means we will be instantly put into USA servers as it quicker to find a game in the USA than it is in Asia due to the player numbers.
Before our auto select was just Asia, meaning only people from our region could play in Asia servers. But even before that SA was an option for everyone, regardless of where you live.
So you may ask, what does this mean? It means two things.
People from Asia, AUS and NZ are now forced to play in USA servers. That means we will be playing on 300+ ping. AKA the game is unplayable for us now. Lagging out, ghost shells rubber banding ect will be a very common occurrence.
People from the USA are also going to suffer. Because are ping is so high information to and from the servers will be delayed creating perforce issues for everyone. The bad experiences you guys have when fighting against people with Chinese names etc., Expect a whole lot more of that now.
If you don’t think is a big deal, or a problem. I ask that you either switch to EU or USA servers (whichever is the opposite to where you live) and play a few games having a high ping. Then come back here and let us know how your experience went.
This is not counter strike, remember that. You would only have any real issue if you’re going over 300ping or you’re getting packet loss. Make sure you pick a good ISP (in Australia, choose someone with GSL transit, like Launtel, AussieBB, Neptune, or the like).
With the above said - I’m all for giving people more choices. You should be able to do SA only.
I’m from NZ, depending on which USA coast server I get put in my ping goes from 270 ( I assume West coast) and 320 (east coast).
My internet speed is also pretty good
Also I play at top tier, where even the smallest amount of delay can make all the difference, rather than the ww2 era stuff where there is a bit of leeway.
I play all sorts of BRs, just focusing on 341 (for obvious reasons) this past week or such. You seem to have some bad international routing. Some ISPs are like this in Aus. I went from 260-280 with Superloop to 210 with Launtel - just by changing to a provider with better upstream providers (GSL). I get 120 ping to the SA (Japan) server, btw.
It’s not a matter of speed, though. It’s the steps you take to get from your home to the server. More steps = more ping.
Now, just to be clear - I agree that you should be able to select the SA server outright, rather than just having it listed under autoselect (which has bundled NA with it for you for some reason). But you can work to get your ping down in the meantime. Gaijin don’t advertise their game server ips, but there are various ways of getting them (wireshark, for example). You then do a tracert and see if there are issues and you can then send that off to your ISP for them to get their stuff together. Because there is no way you should ever be getting 320ping to USA from New Zealand (Even if it is East Coast). Something is going wrong.
the SA servers are just abysmal to connect to from London. I cant even select the servers to show you the normal ping but SA players usually suck enough that i can hold my own decently enough. Guess its another reason to add to the “reasons to move to Hong kong” list, bad players for easy sealclubs.
you must have a crazy pc to be getting 340fps, i usually plateau at 180fps with a 3060 12gb
London to Japan, hmm would be interesting to see what path your ISP is taking, indeed.
5800X3D + 9070XT @ 1440p. I jumped into an ARB game to get that ping screenshot. In ground when the battles are all raging it’ll be lower. I should probably cap the FPS, since I don’t even need it that high, lol.
One thing I’ve noticed about Kiwi ISPs, there isn’t much focus on quality for gaming, how good their upstream providers are (‘GSL’ = good for us), etc, on the ISP pages I’ve seen. Meanwhile in Australia:
Kiwi here, I rarely use SA servers because 90% of the time the autoselect ONLY selects SA, not US which is what I prefer due to the quick matchmaking times, not to mention the quality of SA servers being… subpar at the best of times. In US servers I generally get between 250 and 320 ping with Ethernet, and on the odd occasion I do EU it’s usually around 340 - 350 so definitely playable, but I would love to be able to select SA servers as well.
