The best doesn’t mean guaranteed kill, especially against player aware of you, has outline of an idea how to deal with missile even if its panic flare shitting in question and sees missiles coming courtesy of ARB handholding.
The same applies to your precious 9L, still can be flared even in its optimal launch conditions, as if game is still meant to be somewhat playable.
First missile launch - when he noticed, stream of flares to overwhelm the seeker and keep it turned off while turning, textbook example how to deal with tracking suspension. He was still gently turning towards you. By time of second launch, you’ve launched missile instantly blinded as it had both jet and flares in the seeker which is recipe to make it go haywire and it did, sodding off into the sunset. Circle around target is pretty good indication what seeker sees.
The best part: to my knowledge tracking suspension is modeled surprisingly correctly in game, so go scream at Raytheon or whoever was developing the missile for not accounting some game few decades forward to give ultimate 360 view and instant target + threat identification for pilots, even against smokeless missiles.
Depends on the range, but generally yes. It still uses tracking suspension thus single flare falling into seeker view is enough to turn it off. Then its matter of feeding more flares to keep it off while changing direction, so when seeker comes back on, it sees nothing.
Aim-9M is a slight upgrade over the 9L, and Gajin thinks the Python F-16 is better than the Aim-9L, so this isn’t particularly surprising as far as Gajin logic goes.
Maybe you can fire from front aspect more IRL as it wont see flares?
In WT 9L is more consistent/ reliable
Phantom with burner on flying straight is eating a 9L nearly every time. Iv even had terrible R60’s ignore flares vs phantom
9M the so called better missile doesn’t even kill in the same situation, head on… still no, side…not if flare spam.
So its a surprise missile that doesn’t hit if flare. Im still taking face stuffing pythons. Looks like Snail knows best :)
Lamso thos are magics 2
And yea magic 2 are better but still lacks in range and that why he takes 9m (all tjo he cant take magics in the outer pylon anyway but still)
If the enemy doesnt change direction it should connect
That just sounds like a genuine skill issue ngl
9m may not be the greatest irccm missile but its not that bad as people make it sound like
And honestly if you are struggling in the gripen with 9m and one of the best fm in game that is a big skill issue
