It’s a fair amount better than most of the other 9.7 BR tanks, barring a handful of outliers such as the Sabra.
And more importantly, it really shouldn’t fight tanks below 9.0 BR, because they literally can do nothing.
T-64B is okay, but is easily punished and retains all the disadvantages of the soviet MBT line. The dart is the biggest plus, and it’s not even that good when considering the Sabra is using ammo better than some 11.7 BR tanks.
I think moving it up to 10.0/10.3 in its current state is insane, given the performance of the Challenger Mk2 is average at 10.3 with both a better shell, TVD and even a dozer blade which is useful. L23, a shell that is first added to the TT at 9.0 on the Cheiftain mk10, is totally inadequate for fighting most tanks past about 10.3 at which point L23A1 would be needed for the FV4030/3 to be usable if it moved up in BR. If it needs a better shell before it can move up in BR then it must be at the right BR with its current shell.
I dont have issue with the FV4030/3 moving to 10.0 but getting L23A1, as its a more rounded line-up with the Desert Warrior, Tracked Rapier and Stormer AD also at 10.0 but it cannot be simutaneously OP at 9.7 with L23 and need to recieve L23A1 to move to 10.0.
Even with L23 it beats pretty much all the 9.7 MBTs except the Sabra snd T-64B though. It’s also faster than them both, despite gaijin’s inability to model regenerative braking. The “soft stats” are also better.
It’s too much for 9.7 BR and 8.7 BR tanks need protection from it.
I know the usual rhetoric to getting uptiered is “just bend over, kiss your behind goodbye because you’re doing nothing to change your fate” but most +1.0 ground matchups can be tipped in favor of a more skilled but lower BR player. That’s not really possible against the Shir. It holds all the cards.
Then give it L23A1 and move it to 10.0
Forget the Chieftain mk10, take the VFM5 instead.
The main problem in the lineup is once again British SPAA gaps. By 9.7 EVERY other nation gets missile AA, but Britain is stuck with the 2 8.3 SPAA, neither of which are fantastic. Germany and the USSR get a version of the Gepard/Shilka with MANPADS strapped to them, but the Stormer AD is, for some reason, 10.0. If they just bumped that down to 9.7 it would fix this.
Its a bit of a shame the Tracked Rapier wasnt added (or a version of it added) to fill that void.
Knowing how Gaijin balances things, they would put it at a higher BR than the Starstreak-armed Stormer HVM (which replaced Rapier systems in service, because it’s BETTER irl… but that’s not how Gaijin works). They’d probably put it at the same 10.3 they put everything else for Britain.
Tbh I’m of the opinion that these SPAA armed with heat-seekers should be a much higher BR as the missiles are fire and forget, high performance and near impossible to flare. Early-period radar beam-riding missiles take more skill to use and are easier to defeat, so should be lower… But they have longer range which is what matters to Gaijin.
It’s 10.0 on the dev server IIRC. So no quite but not much different
it is quite true if you play it right you could potentially be the KV-1B of 9.7 but Gaijin gives a lot of uptiers I see 2S38s and T80UDs every few maches tho

This and all other responses aged like fine wine, with the FV4030/3 being moved to 10.0 and countless of YouTubers agreeing how busted this thing was and currently is at 9.7 it’s good knowing I was on the right side of Gaijin history.
This thing was genuinely criminally good at 9.7 and if I recall correctly I got a KDR of like 5 to 6 in this beast, it only took me couple battles to realise how dumb it was.
With it moving to 10.0 I have no issue with it anymore, it’s a perfectly balanced vehicle but those 11.0 uptiers will be a pain
Just wish it could get L23A1. L23 is barely good enough to deal with 10.3s half the time.
I do think that it should’ve remained at 9.7 and gotten its APFSDS removed and especially since the Rapier is also moving down to 9.7 but apparently that would be too much effort, which it moving up to 10.0 however it should indeed receive the L23A1.

And that is the fault of decompression, vehicles like the FV4030/3 shouldn’t be facing the T-55AM and that’s common sense, using one wrong to argue why its okay isn’t a good argument. The Chieftain shouldn’t face the BV and the T-55AM shouldn’t face the FV4030/3.
The performance of the FV4030/3 however is on par with other 10.0 vehicles, give it L23A1 and its going to be perfectly fine at that BR.
you dont bring it at 10.0 though, theyve now moved the rapier down to 9.7 which means nobody will use it cause itd pointlessly uptier a otherwise good lineup, and put the fv4030 into a place in which it has no lineup, you either bring to to 10.3 where its vastly outclassed, or you uptier 9.3 to 10.0 where it makes the lineup pointless.
