FV107 Scimitar: Single-Edged Sword!

Same weapon system as the fox so no if it was the scimitar 2 then yes

I hope so but while there were APFSDS rounds developed for it I believe they were prototypes

Allowing the tow ropes to dangle near the track is poor drills, no CVR(T) crew would allow this to happen. These ropes are just fabric and will easily become damaged by the track, or covered in mud, leading to decay over time.

The ropes are stowed either in bins, on the deck either crossed or taut, or otherwise secured.

This Scimitar from the Household Cavalry has one rope crossed and one lain across the deck because they have lost one of their towing shackles.

I love it when bug reports start getting submitted based purely off the devblog photos

Low effort bug report, I don’t have the time to do it today but I was a crewman on several CVR(T) variants and they have a place close to my heart.

So we’ll consider you the vehicle expert going forward then 😄

Suffice to say they’re a lot more fun to drive than maintain, but still easier than CR2.

The dreaded cry; “Decks off!

The external hand fire extinguishers are the wrong type, during the period depicted (circa 1995) they would have been either the green dry powder extinguishers or the smaller BCF (Bromochlorodifluoromethane) extinguisher.

Additionally, on operations the modern red fire extinguishers are fitted with a waterproof dust cover.

The Rheinmetall L21A1 30x170mm APFSDS was accepted for service in 2009 but never ordered as there was no operational need for it.

This Scimitar is too old for it, the APFSDS would probably only be found on the last models in the series (Scimitar Em 235 BGTI and Scimitar 2), if at all.

It urks me that the front of the Scimitar is wrong. as said before, rope hanging in front of the tracks is bad drills and asking for trouble where those ropes potentially get caught in the tracks and cause damage. On top of that, i don’t think i’ve ever seen a Scimitar without the stowage boxes and headlight protectors. I’ve seen Scorpion’s without them, but never Scimitars.

i made a bug report thing to add the stowage bins and headlight protectors so, if anyone has any more information or is able to correct anything; here’s the report!

Headlight covers are present but the front stowage boxes are missing in the 1993 User Handbook. Might buy a copy for myself later on, just trying to justify the expense.

Edit: If you check some of the pics I posted earlier you can see Scimitars on ops without the headlight covers.

yeah, but that’s a Scorpion in that picture no? short barrel. I think i made the point that, theoretically they can go without them, but it just looks unnatural without them.

edit: not saying this in an aggressive way. I like the Scimitar how they have it in the game, but it just… bugs me that those stowage boxes are missing, as well as a bunch of others. there ARE examples without them, but there are far more examples with, if that makes sense?

Yes, the picture is Scorpion. The 1993 handbook is for all CVR(T) variants but I do agree they look bare without the front stowage.

We used the outer two for driver’s tools and the middle one for shaving kits, front deck makes a good little table.

yeah, just odd that they decided to use the lesser seen, rather than the commonly seen. stowage boxes are, in my opinion a iconic part of its silhouette, and make the vehicle unique over the other variants; so me, as well as a bunch of others would love to see them! the more people who put “i have the same issue” on the bug report, the more likely they are to read that though, so who knows.

I am with you, that the Scimitar looks weird without the storage boxes and headlight protectors.

However the bug report you have created is for the current version on the live server (2.39.0.102), however the the dev servers current version is 2.40.0.31.

So you might need to recreate the bug report for the dev server version. I am suggesting this so there is an increased chance for the bug report to be seen.

edited and updated. thank you.

Extra stowage boxes weren’t a standard fit on the vehicle until 1996 or later. They were purpose built for Sabre, then adopted by other in-service CVR(t)s over the years - but probably weren’t on every Scimitar until they got ESPIRE.
Before that it was a case of using rando ammo boxes and various modified Chieftain bins.

But obviously the front ones only fit when the lights were slung under the flotation screen shelf. Those seen around 1993-1994 when the lights were initially moved, don’t have stowage there.
However, doing it at ~1996 spec with the bespoke stowage boxes puts it very close to the introduction of SPIRE thermal sight and LEP (~1997/98) and many other things that aren’t reflected on the model either.

Personally I reckon it would have been best to do it at an earlier, pre-Gulf War layout with the lights further down and then possibly add these assorted improvised stowage boxes, since that’s how they looked for most of their career before thermal imagers were added.

Fun fact:- The front stowage boxes are mounted facing the opposite way on Scimitars that are up-armoured with the Plasan appliqué kit (2003+ addon armour)

so I guess what we need to know then, is the year of production of the one in game, and then go from there. based on the fire extinguishers being red not green as per l2ulan’s post, its safe to say its after 1995, meaning that its a higher potential to have the stowage boxes.

As @da12thmonkey said near the start of the thread, it’s about a 1994-95 vehicle.

He explained it here;

The 1994-95 is I suppose based on the lights moving from the low to high position from 1994, but prior to the introduction of the front stowage bins in 1996.
