Full Romanian Ground & Air Tech Tree

Hello everyone,

I’d like to propose the addition of a Romanian tech tree (ground + air) to War Thunder. Romania has a unique military history that spans multiple eras and alliances, making it a strong candidate for a diverse and interesting tech tree.

Romania offers a rare combination of:

Indigenous designs (IAR aircraft, Mareșal TD, TR-85 MBTs)
Axis equipment (WWII German vehicles)
Soviet equipment (Cold War era)
Modern NATO systems (F-16, Abrams)

This creates a natural progression similar to China or Israel , with a mix of domestic and imported vehicles.

Air Tree Overview
Early Ranks

IAR-80 / IAR-81 (indigenous fighters)
PZL P.11f
He 112, Hurricane, Blenheim (operated aircraft)

WWII Progression
Bf 109 variants
Ju 87, He 111, Ju 88
IAR-81C

Cold War → Modern
MiG-15, MiG-17, MiG-21 (including LanceR)
IAR-93 Vultur (indigenous attacker)
IAR-99 Șoim
F-16AM (modern era)

Estimated total: 30–35 aircraft , including fighters, attackers, and bombers. (The ones above are examples)

And Ground part
WWII Highlights

R-1, R-2, Renault R-35
TACAM series (unique tank destroyers)
Mareșal (very important and unique TD design)
Panzer IV, StuG III (Romanian service)

And more (To lazy to type all of them )

But the point is in both tech trees should be around 25-30 vehicles which is roughly equal with what Israel started

So i feel like it would be a good idea and option as another smaller tech tree that has good from both worlds (Russian and American technology ) so you could get to an F-16 faster than you would in the American tech tree or russian vehciles.
Just a thought

should be mixed in with the Hungarian vehicles in the Italian tech tree

I don’t think Romania should be added to the Italian tech tree alongside Hungary. Romania has enough unique vehicles and historical depth to stand on its own as a separate nation. It isn’t just a minor filler country—it has indigenous designs like the IAR aircraft series, the Mareșal tank destroyer, and later the TR-85 and TR-85M1, plus a full progression from WWII to modern NATO equipment not to mention their own helicopters as well.

Merging it into Italy would only make the tree feel more like a mixed “miscellaneous Europe” lineup and hurt the identity of both nations.

You should make a proper suggestion if you want to, it’s about time someone does

They got the planes covered, but I hope they make something for ground vehichles as well.

Not many people want another sloppy paste tech tree. The 4 unique vehicles arent worth it. Add the vehicles to Italy

Well thats how its going to be for everyone, since most of the countries either have Soviet American or German Technology with a few exceptions here and there. Like look at Israel for example why were they even added in the first place they have even less original stuff

And I’m not happy about that? Neither is anyone else? Why do we need more

I get the concern about “copy-paste” trees, but that argument doesn’t really hold up when you look at how War Thunder actually builds nations. Almost every tree in the game uses a mix of foreign and domestic vehicles—Italy, China, Israel, even Sweden to some extent. That’s just how military history works.

Romania isn’t just “4 unique vehicles.” It has a full lineup across eras: IAR aircraft, the Mareșal (which was actually a very influential tank destroyer design), TACAM series, and later TR-77/85 tanks. On top of that, it has a complete progression path from Axis → Soviet → NATO, which gives it a very natural and interesting tech tree flow.

Also, saying “just add them to Italy” kind of ignores identity. At that point you’re not building a nation, you’re just stacking random vehicles into an already mixed tree. That’s exactly what people complain about with Italy now.

And regarding “why do we need more nations?”—because variety is what keeps the game alive. Israel was added with mostly imported vehicles, but it still brought a new playstyle and progression. Romania would do the same, but with even more indigenous content.

So it’s not really about adding more copy-paste—it’s about adding a nation that actually has enough history and unique elements to stand on its own instead of being reduced to a side branch.

I mean sure, from what I have seen the mid tiers would be the only real copy paste area, albeit supplemented with unique support vehicles. I think that Romania is also one of those countries that simply has much history yet to be uncovered, so new discoveries in the future are also possible.

As someone who is happy playing lineups composed of TDs, SPAA, and LTs, I am supportive of this idea, although we both know that Gaijin will screw it up sooner or later.

Romania is already subtree of Italy, where it will almost definitely stay.

Though what does need to be done is more Romanian vehicles need to be added to the tree that arent copy paste. Romania has plenty of unique tanks from the communist era (TR-77, TR-85, Romanian TAB, T-55AM2R, Zimbru 2000 (prototype), etc). Also TR-125 is very much needed, would the best early T-72A offshoot, second best being M-84A

While it would make sense to add more Romanian stuff to Italy, I’d rather see them be combined with Poland and Czecho|Slovakia into a combined Eastern European TT, since it would actually bring quite a lot of decently unique stuff to what otherwise would be bloated with Soviet C&P.
