so been on this game for about 1300 hours now iv always seen this but its not really talked about anymore. where did the “free to play” of the game go? if you dont have a premium account you are losing more lions then gaining, if you dont use a premium plane or tank $80+ per one btw the research speed for top tier is impossibly slow for top tier or even mid tier.
when will gaijin make war thunder free to play again like they used to in 2012-2018?
War Thunder’s player base has skyrocketed since then and maintaining the servers for all of these players requires more budget and since the game is free to play, there’s no guarantee that its growth will pay for itself. In fact if everyone keeps playing for a few months without spending anything in the game, Gaijin will go bankrupt.
The only solution is to either change the way the game is and make it a paid game (you’d have to purchase it to play it, like Arma or Squad) or make the playerbase addicted to the game and make the grind hard so they’d have to pay and can’t refuse because of their addiction to the game.
In other words, those who are spending money in the game carry the burden of free players and if the game was pay to play, the overall prices of premiums would’ve been a lot lower.
Making the game a one-time purchase and eliminating almost/cheapening all in-game purchases would be detrimental in the long-term, it would only help the game keep going for 1-2 more years better and then the profit would go constantly further and further down. The whole point of being free to play is to always profit from some paid services (in this case, primarily GE boxes and and premium time), so that the game can keep being live service for an indefinite amount of time rather than only until everyone already has bought the game.
Yes. Gaijin can’t rely solely on one time purchase of the game. They can still keep premiums in game but maybe with a lower price. Battlepass would also be useful for Gaijin.
well to be fair i cant even look at your account so im guessing your very new to the game about 1 month in if you look at in game data from 4-5 months ago you will be able to see the switch to its past when they first made the change
Imho you (and the player quoted above) should invest 15-30 minutes in research about the purpose of games in general and options to launch these games (full price & half price updates vs f2p) and the specific target customers of game developers.
With a neutral and sober view on wt it is not hard to get that this game is optimized to be attractive for kids looking for a vehicle based shooter.
The choice for going with f2p is targeted to minimize entry barriers for minors in oder to lure them in the “forever grind” trap and as a hell of studies of the gaming industry shows )the real money is made with mobile games) proves that going f2p creates way more income than full price games.
Sorry man, but your are somehow trapped in an illusion. Server maintenance is one of the smallest issues, try to research about that.
Same as this nonsense claim of carrying a game by paying premium time. Visit the old wt forum around may 2023 and read the comments & replies to the tone deaf reply by gaijin regarding the 80/20 claim.
As a general rule: F2P games are designed to attract paying customers by transforming a real f2p customer into a paying customer. If gaijin fails to transform them f2p players have no real purpose besides filling lobbies and/or playing targets for paying customers. Otherwise they play zero role for the game developers.
This looks near the truth - but you completely miss the point of player demographics and player retention spans in certain age brackets.
Imho it is clear that wt is aimed to be attractive for minors with rather short retention times - so your goal is to earn as much money with them until they play something else.
A short reminder - 2 years ago we were at this point:
I don’t think Gaijin is greedy at least not compared to many others.
Gaijin is a privately owned company and yet I haven’t heard about Anton Yudintsev being seen on his luxury yacht or private jet and I haven’t heard about Gaijin developers complaining about the company paying them too low compared to how much they work either.
In fact they spend a lot on War Thunder be it advertising or making cinematic trailers. That money is being spent on War Thunder after all.
Yes the game has its downsides but so does every game and everything in existence.
People are hating Gaijin and calling it greedy way too much compared to how little companies like Amazon or Tesla are being hated despite their owners being the richest people on earth.
No I agree with him, I also cannot find anything about the economy changes being reverted 4-5 months ago, B29s no longer cost 70,000 sl to repair and I have struggled to get SL for over a year now, the SL economy is better than ever imo
This depends on your experience / applicable skill as result of playing the game. As soon as you progress (or just play on your current level) and lose SL you play above your skill level. Progress within the game is first and foremost an RP issue.
I do agree that the player revolt 2023 changed some things to the better; so in certain game modes like Air RB you needed 2 kills in case of a victory or 3 kills in case of a defeat to cover your own repair cost in case you got died in the match.
I haven’t called gaijin greedy or something else. I simply reject the idea that f2p games would be designed to cover the needs of f2p players as the game is optimized to earn money with paying customers.
From my perspective every long-term player aware of how the game works is able to find niches within the game which offers a mix of challenge and fun whilst offering the lowest impact of natural or artificially created drawbacks.
