way to many matches are won/lost because a half (or more) of one of the teams is just sitting in spawn in a free AA.

Well at least they are still in battle able to do something. If there weren’t free SPAA, then those players in free SPAA would just be back in the hangar. Extra rewards for players who play better than the enemy.
Besides, the free vehicles is just a shoddy fix for a couple larger issues, that being new players can buy their way to the top, and the grind is so extensive, that even after buying premiums and premium time, it still takes a very long time to actually unlock anything.
A much easier fix would have been for Gaijin to take into consideration that people have lives outside of War Thunder, and that making War Thunder a second job, where you have to spend money to gain the ability to unlock anything in a reasonable amount of time, is just poor business practices. This would hurt the golden lining of Gaijins pockets though, so I wouldn’t expect such decisions.
Or people could take it slow and first start to play a new BR when they got 2-3 vehicles unlocked?
That’s what i do, i never start a new bracket unless i’m somewhat ready for it.
There is a rather large quantity of players who aren’t playing the game to get good at each rank, and instead are just trying to play modern things. That is why Gaijin makes sure that there is at least one premium of each relatively popular and modern piece of equipment. This is why I am so critical of the grind especially, because there are players who don’t want to play the lower ranks, they want to play modern things, but in order to get a lineup, they have to invest several hundred hours of gameplay to achieve such things.
