Yeah, AI AA though seems to problematic in all gamemodes (naval AA in NRB and convoy SPAA in ASB for example) so they really need to come with a good way of balancing it overall. And yeah I agree. that entire skill tree is rather useless, even with aircraft with turrets. Seems really stupid to still have that line in aircraft with none. Shame crew skills arent aircraft specific
Single crew, it does something entirely different, not sure what
2 seater with a RIO/navigator buffs them (maybe radar buffs?)
multi-crew/Turreted - buffs the gunner
And against a bomber, even stick & throttle can land hits from nearly a kilometer out. They’re wide, they’re big, they’re fat and most importantly: slow. Hardest part is estimating range because some gunsights don’t follow real-life scale and you also don’t know what you’re shooting most of the time either - is your revi 2 marks filled by the wing because it’s 600 meters away in a small bomber or 2 marks filled by the wing because it’s 1000 meters away in a big bomber (there’s also, depending on gun, added challenge in keeping nose steady long enough for enough shots to land. Easily said with hispanos, less so with peashooters).
This is just not true at all (more like 70%). There are plenty of console players not using mouse. And yes, even a good few players using joysticks in rb too. Remember - Play Station/Xbox players. A pad is perfectly capable. It’s just not, well, as accurate as a mouse.
Im talking bomber gunners vs fighters 1km out. I managed to hit a bomber in the ki-109 with a lucky aimed shot.
I guess what I’m asking is that
has anyone noticed what I have said happen to them?
do they think bots are at work here?
what was all the whoha a while back when those 1000s of Chinese players were banned? Wasn’t that about using cheating mods (bots etc?). Some of it must have been for using bot gunners.
controllers are good enough - if you’re not up against an “expert” mouse aimer. He can utilize all the (unfair IMO) that a mouse gives such as stutterless aiming. If you are careful and dont go steaming in you should be ok.
I occasionally get hit by a stray shot near bombers, usually losing wingtip but occasionally my pilot dies. However, this is balanced by those moments my pilot turns red and I limp back to base with a sputtering engine trying to kill me. Guns spray and disperse rather wildly, there’s a not insignificant element of luck whether a bullet hits your canopy, bounces off the bulletproof glass or gets eaten by the engine - especially at longer ranges and with stock guns. Bf109G12’s guns fully stock look like a literal shotgun even with a steady hand.
No, you just encountered a player who is at the keyboard and scanning in gunner mode rather than the typical player who afks while climbing or tunnelvisions to the bombardier view.
“Bot gunners” to me fails a simple occam’s razor (see point 2). Cheating does exist, but it comes out the woodwork when there’s a grind event happening and from what I see, it’s usually non-reactive suicide bots.
Much as I prefer flying with (virtual joystick) in sim, I do not think it’s right to call people flying in ARB which is advertised as a high-accessibility game mode as having unfair advantage. The main selling point warthunder has over its peers is accessibility, and the autopilot mouse aim provides that.
Sim exists for flying the plane properly with all their flaws and quirks. I’ll grant that it does depend on TZ for fun games - UTC 18-02 seem to be prime time, with hours outside that being somewhat low pop for prop tiers.
Getting killed by a Pe-8 approaching from above and behind is no surprise. Their 20mm ShVaks (top and tail gunner) is extremely accurate. Just noobs attack from behind and above allowing both cannons to fire. Getting no repair fee sounds like a bug. Post the replay link so we can assess if you got killed by the player or by the ai gunner.
A bot is either a derogatory assessment of a “real” player or an ai controlled vehicle. You see both kinds in wt. I do not exclude that some guys found a way to play with aim-assist (aim-bots), but this can’t be proven in Air RB. In addition: The artificial gunner spread kills from my pov this “option”.
Bot game play in certain ban waves is not specified regarding their total share of banned accounts. Have in mind that certain countries have for minors time restrictions for online games - that’s why automated game play is / was extremely popular.
Even today i see every few days a guy with an enhanced bot script. I reported him 3 times, but i see no reaction from gaijin.
Other things:
A professional attack on a bomber requires a setup aimed to avoid return fire (=dead zones) or to minimize return fire (=very high excess speed and extending very fast).
Just watch your replays (in case you got hit by a defensive gun) and view the action with option “2” (= player perspective) in order to assess if you got hit by the player using the gunner or by ai gunners.
If you do this frequently (and you attack like a pro/veteran player) you will see 2 things: A) 70-90% of your bomber kills happen whilst the bomber player is in bombardier view and B) 70-90 % of the hits on your aircraft are scored by ai gunners - even if you attack from 12 o’clock high in a very fast plane.
I recommend to all players (repeating this max 210 meters ai gunner nonsense) to watch their own replays when they got hit by return fire. After 10-20 replays they will find out that the firing range is way beyond that. Otherwise these thousands of ai bomber bots would have not scored hundreds of kills whilst playing thousands of matches 24/7.
Finally:
I saw that you still follow your usual pattern to get off topic - with your favorite issue “mouse aim in Air RB is unfair”. It actually doesn’t matter - everybody can make his own choices which fits for them.
Edit:
I just came out of a match (replay link) in which i met either one of the lousiest bomber players i ever saw - or a guy who had no money to buy a functional bot (automated game play) script. I saw not a single manual control in the 10 minutes he was alive.
His script (used in a non-premium CHN B-25) foresees a bomb drop (after a slight dive followed by a slight climb) and extending to the map border. That his script had either a very bad day or the weather / clouds prevented the drop as high bomb bay doors opened too late- idk. He flew straight whilst he was also cooking his engines on this cold map - rather evidence for a cheap or self-developed script. Classic indicator for being a bot is not looking around and going into bombardier view after 01:25.
As i checked his player card before the attack (2.590 battles, 2.590 respawns means he never landed and changed loadout) and died in 2.359 cases (plus he had 339 air kills) i was sure that he is a bot and decided to attack with high speed from the side and slightly below (to avoid top turret and tail gunner) as just his single side HMG had a chance to hit me. I hit his bombs and he exploded at 10:17.
