I’m coming to the game forum to report that the game is causing SEVERE FPS DROPS during matches, either starting right at the beginning and lasting until mid-match, or happening from mid-match until near the end, with no apparent reason.
I’ve tried multiple video settings and graphic quality presets, and nothing fixed it. There are HUGE and SUDDEN FPS DROPS even though my PC can easily run the game on the FILM preset at a stable 100~150 FPS, the issue still happens. The FPS suddenly drops to 40, and in HORRIBLE cases, down to 25 FPS, across ALL VIDEO PRESETS, even the lowest ones.
My GPU drivers are fully up to date.
System specs:
- 32GB DDR4 3200MHz RAM
- RTX 4060
- Ryzen 5 5600 @ 4.2GHz
Please fix this issue, because playing ground battles is becoming stressful and not because of 2 or 3 SU-30SM players spamming KH-38MT, but because the FPS randomly drops below 40 FPS, even on the lowest graphics settings.
(PC built less than 3 years ago).
Watch out for dlss because if u have dlss on it can make sometimes fps drop suddenly
If its on just turn it off
You can bug report it here (just search a bit first so that you don’t report something that is already reported and known about): (Gaijin.net // Issues)
A guide on how to report bugs can be found here: ([Navigation] Technical Knowledge Base | War Thunder Wiki)
For performance related bugs there are a couple of steps they require you to do for reporting it:

I’ve already tried playing with DLSS enabled and disabled, and the sudden FPS drops still happen for no apparent reason.
Just yesterday, I even took my PC to a repair shop for a full deep cleaning, thinking it might be a thermal paste issue after almost 3 years of use. They replaced it with a higher-quality and more expensive thermal paste, and the problem still wasn’t solved.
So yeah, at this point, I really believe the issue is with the GAME itself, and it needs to be analyzed by the responsible team so it can actually be fixed. Things are already bad enough. Thank God that in air battles, the only issue is the game randomly reducing map texture quality for no reason, but at least that doesn’t affect FPS, which stays around 200~240 FPS consistently.
Are u using from steam or from client ?
If i were u i would check all files if they are correct if its then i would try make my graphic setting mid or high nothing crazy if there still fps drops i would delete and install again war thunder
As I mentioned before, I tested different presets and the drops still happen, even on the lowest graphics settings. The problem started after the last major update, so I believe it might be some kind of overlay or background feature added with recent improvements that’s causing this.
It would be good if the developers took a look at this. There are quite a few recent reports on the other forum from players experiencing the same issue, which is why I personally didn’t bother opening another report there.
In my view, when a problem is being reported by many players with solid PC/console setups, it should be prioritized and fixed as quickly as possible.
Is it stutters or actual fps drops?
Stutters are when the game runs like normal for a second then at like 1-2 fps for one second and then normal again for another half a second and so on. the fps counter will then say the halfway number because that will be the average over that duration.
fps drops is when it actually goes down to way lower fps and stays there for several seconds before going back to normal.
They are actual FPS drops. My FPS in Ground Battles is usually 100~150 FPS consistently, depending on the map.
The issue, as I mentioned, is that it suddenly drops to below 40 FPS, either from the start of the match until the middle, or from the middle of the match all the way to the end.
It really depends on when the game decides that the sudden FPS drop is going to happen during the match.
And like I added in the previous comment, this issue started after the last major update, but from what I saw on the bug report forum, there are players reporting the same problem way earlier than that.
I really don’t think this is a driver issue I’ve already checked and everything is up to date. It’s also not a cooling problem: my PC has 7x 120mm fans + the 3 GPU fans, and the CPU is cooled by a water cooler that costs around 100 USD, which is a lot of money for a water cooler here in Brazil.
The thermal paste was replaced, the PC was properly cleaned, everything was done correctly… so yeah, this is on the game, not on the player. I’m honestly pretty pissed off, to be real dealing with invisible players, Su-30SMs spamming KH-38MT, and the wonderful helicopters with infrared missiles is already annoying enough LOL.
Now having to deal with these sudden FPS drops on top of all that is just one more thing I shouldn’t have to “accept”, especially when other players have already sent reports about this recently.
