The US did use them but redesignated them L and G
Never knew the national guard rocked them. I never really paid much attention to what they ran other than the F-89’s and some of the more recent…ish like Phantoms and such.
Ye apparently the 93rd fighter interceptor squad that was stationed in New Mexico also used them in 1952
Note though that USAF Sabredogs had the all-rocket armament that never really worked, the cannons were only in export vehicles (hence why the F-86H is a much better addition)
XF-84H
The propeller plane that was so close breaking the sound barrier.
yes the one pictured is an f86l with NO 20mms sorry for any unintended miscommunication
I thought the TSR didn’t have any AAMs, just the bombs and ASM/AGMs?
There was a proposal to out fit it with Red Tops
F-106 my most wanted plane frfr
indeed it is i got the name mixed up, but I was talking about the US one
I woud also like to see more turboprop aircraft and prop driven cold war aircraft like the OV-10 Bronco pictured above
Interceptors in particular have been been forgotten. While there are definitely some that would be pretty useless (eg. Su-9) most would still be reasonably effective. The Soviets in particular have tons of jet interceptors as a result of American bomber superiority, enough to fill a whole branch!
Yak-25M:
First Soviet jet interceptor, beat the La-200. Fast, good climb rate, heavy but surprisingly maneuverable for its size, 2 37mm cannon, ~7.7
MiG-17P:
MiG-17PF but with worse engine of base MiG-17. ~8.7 (too copy paste?)
MiG-17PF:
You know this one. Maybe under MiG-17 instead. ~8.7 (wish it was 9.0)
MiG-17PFU:
MiG-17PF but with only one 23mm and 4 beam-riders. ~8.7
Yak-26:
Prototype based on the Yak-25M with more powerful engines, improved aerodynamics, a bomb bay and underwing pylons, and 23mm cannons including a turret. Soviet Vatour. ~9.0 (in bomber line instead?)
Yak-27:
Prototype supersonic (barely) interceptor based on the Yak-26, armed with 30mm cannons. Not the Yak-27R recon variant. ~9.0
Yak-28P:
Interceptor version of the Yak-28B, armed with 2 R-98s (long range, poor maneuverability) and 2 R-3S. ~9.3
MiG-21PF:
Basically the PFM but no gun pod. Could be anywhere 9.0-9.7 depending on available missile load
Su-15:
Fast but unmaneuverable and with low g overload. Gun pods, countermeasure pods, R-98s and R-60s. Any similarities to Chinese fighters living or dead is purely coincidence. ~10.0
Su-15TM:
Now with improved radar and RWR, R-98Ms, and R-60Ms. Shot down a civilian airliner that one time. ~10.7
MiG-25PD:
Fast as fuck and heavy as hell. No gun. Yes CMs. Big beefy R-40Ds and R-60Ms. ~11.0.
MiG-23P:
Interceptor based on the ML. Improved radar but no IRST. R-24MR? ~11.7
MiG-31:
My son. Big, beefy, but better than the MiG-25. Yes gun. Yes countermeasures. R-33, SARH Phoenix equivalents, world’s first PESA, R-40s or R-60Ms. ~12.3
MiG-31B:
Improved radar. Greatly Improved R-33S that would make a Fakour blush. ~13.0
Su-27P:
Standard Su-27 but without bombs/rockets. Not super interesting, I know. But historically significant. ~13.0 (wish the Su-33 was TT and this took its place)
Su-27PU:
AKA the Su-30. Twin-seat with upgraded radar and R-77, but no TV. ~13.7 (under Su-27SM?)
MiG-31M:
AESA. ARH R-37s that make AMRAAMs quake in their boots. No gun. Now with R-77s and R-73s also. ~14.0
Gonna throw my favs
Mirage F2, prototype (big f1 lmao)
Mirage G, Prototype F1 with swept wings
Mirage Balzac (funny vtol plen)
That looks amazingly horrendous in a beautifuly curious way…
shit looks like a twin engined mig 23
