It’s, if nothing else, a historical modeling issue, the Mig-29 never used R-27ER. But it was given it instead of R-73s because they werent an option when it was added.
It can now be fixed and then modeled right. I also hate the ERs WAY more than R-73s. Still the most dangerous thing I encounter in something the Tornado Gr4 are the R-27ERs. Worse than AMRAAMs fired from the ICE imo
like i said 27er sure is a good missile, but even if they dont remove it, you still only have two, and not many planes would be affected, there isnt all that much at 11.3, this solution helps the mig escape gripens and stuff, but it does create other problems for sure
From memory, there are RWRs that lack the ability to pick up an ER launch at 11.3. Provided you remove the ER, there’s not much limiting it going down, but with ER, it’s about where it can be.
Yeah, it may result in BR shifting, but so long as it was fine at either BR, then it should be given a historical fit and then a BR based upon that fit. Not the other way round
Agility is not much better, its a block15, and its slower, no tws, no hmd… It has double drop 60 CMs same as the mig29. Unless you want to ditch some of your already limited missile count to bring some more. Range between the R73 and Aim9M is almost equivalent. The 9M is better at ignoring the occasional flare or missile at range and the R73 is more reliable at close ranges
I dont think that is the issue, rather you can fire the ER, and unlock, letting it guide via IOG for a bulk of the flight time with no RWR pings at all
I don’t like using the ER, so I am not aware of the various nuances with it. I carry mostly ground attack rubbish and ER just isn’t fun so if it takes up a pylon that could carry air to ground, I generally don’t touch it.
Anyway, with r-73 the mig29 goes straight to 13.0, and you already have the mig29g there with both r-27er and r73. Quite decent, a better experience than the f-15a nowadays
Might just be my limited gameplay with the r27r1, but honestly in my experience the r1 is quite bad, maybe even aim7f level bad. Seemed to be quite good energy wise though.
After the R-27ER the best radar missile is the R-24R and then the R-27R followed by the AIM-7P and then the 7F/7M. But since the R-24R is limited by the mig23 radar, the R-27R is the 2nd best in practice.
