Following the Roadmap: Vehicle Research Bonuses

  1. Correct.

  2. As you yourself discovered; not correct, any plane used will activate the bonus.

  3. The biggest change since the public test is that the bonus now ALSO applies to the tree where you got the rank VIII plane, in addition to all the other nations. The bonus previously only applied to all other trees where you did NOT have a rank VIII.

  4. The extra 25% at rank I-III is a change made to the previously tested version of this bonus (which had 0% at rank I-III). The bonus you get is dependant on what rank the plane you are researching is at (not the one you are playing) and it looks like this:

So as an example:
-You unlock the Japanese F-16AJ which is considered a top vehicle.
-You now get the corresponding bonus for each rank in ALL air trees.
-So you can play a rank V plane in USA and get 75% bonus RP for 5 games for the rank VI plane you are researching there. You can then move to rank 3 Germany and get 5 more games of 25% bonus for the plane you are researching there. You can then go back to Japan and get 100% bonus for the second rank VIII plane there, and so on.
-5 games per nation of air no matter the rank you are at in those nations, only the bonus % change per rank.

Edit:
some spelling and formatting for clarity.

It can’t be, you don’t get a penalty for a plane one rank lower than the one you are using and the wiki is stating -10%.

Based on the above conversation, I now wonder how many people completely misunderstood what this bonus currently does, and that is why they’re unhappy. It would make a lot more sense to me if so.

I guess this is a relatively “exclusive” bonus so people who weren’t able to just go test it out through owning a top of the line vehicle are at a disadvantage if they misunderstand something; as they’re unable to test it themselves.

If it ever was like in the stats cards, sadly not anymore. I’ve just noticed myself:

Wow this is a great find, needs to be bug reported potentially. Stat card clearly says 100% efficiency at rank v, yet it subtracts the 10% like it says on the wiki chart. Very odd.

Thanks for the info!

@Smin1080p_WT any Info on this one? (TLDR: Stat card stating max research efficiency rank V-VII but researching rank V gives a -10% penalty)

idk, im average at sim and got over 300k rp last night in my 5 battles. Cant speak for ground sim though. 300k rp is a ton, and i am personally happy about it, and so are the players i squad with.

Yes you do:

Spoiler

On the mouseover on vehicle RP on the final battle screen it shows you the reduction. See red circled part. A rank III coastal (MS-472) researching a rank II coastal (MAS 411) has its RP reduced by 10% as the wiki table says it will “-(2007 *10%) [III–>II] = -201 RP”. It’s the stat cards that are misleading.

No, it’s just a bad mechanic. It’s overly complicated with little benefit. If the intent is to incentivize players to try other nations, they need to either be interesting enough to do so, or the grind needs to be worth it. Considering the minor nations (the non-big three), are largely copy and paste until you reach top tier (and even then, some are still just copy and paste - like Israel), then the grind needs to be made less tedious.

This does not help with that. Which is why we saw a lot of comments in the last couple of devblogs on this mechanic to just be a flat bonus per branch.

That’s…cool? Most of the people I play with hate it. And they absolutely gutted Sim rewards too when they moved it to activity time based.

What counts as a “Top” vehicle?

A “top” vehicle is (all conditions must be met):

A researchable vehicle. The following do not count: premium and squadron vehicles, event vehicles, store pack or marketplace vehicles, and hidden vehicles.
A vehicle that is last in its line in the research tree. If the last in the line is in a group, then the first vehicle is considered the “top” one.
A vehicle that is located at the maximum rank in the research tree.
A vehicle whose maximum Battle Rating among all modes is no more than 2 Battle Rating steps lower than the maximum Battle Rating of this tree. For example, the maximum Battle Rating of France’s aviation is 13.7. 2 steps lower would be 13.0 (13.7 to 13.3, then to 13.0). Meaning a vehicle in this tree below 13.0 even at the maximum rank does not count as a “top” vehicle.

In short, only the top 1% or 2% of players will get anything out of this, and it’s still a paltry bonus for those players. We all would have been happier with daily RP bonuses than this convoluted mess of a “bonus.”

I have to say I am happy with the way this works!
It has definitely caused me to be more engaged with the game.

All things help, dissapointing maybe.

But end of the line Gaijin is a company that needs to make money, If the Grind was to easy no one would buy Premium account ot Tanks, PERIOD.

Keeping up with making money they have given multiple systems to mitigate some of the Grind:

  • Lowering repair costs;
  • adding the repair cost timer mechanic, so after about 5 min you’ll get the max repair cost;
  • adding mechanic to premium account so you can’t lose Sl unless TK;
  • Folder similar vehicles, which reduces 2nd vehicle by 42% in RP costs;
  • RP bonus for kills, repairs and FPE actions;
  • And now a 5 time bonus at base RP level, per nation every day;

Is there room for improvement, sure:

  • As mentioned before add bonus to final tally. Which will result in a lower bonus overall;
  • I also like the mention to get a max amount of attempts regardless of nation, free to add them to your nation of choice. This would be most beneficial for people who play a single TT people.

As i mentioned Gaijin needs to balance this to keep their profits up and keep people invested in the game. If people go through the TT to fast, they will either lose interest or scream and shout that new stuff needs to be added. As always it’s impossible to please everyone and there will always be something to complain about.

That’s only true for those who played before that feature,… and this wouldn’t be true if newbs from today read things before doing.

For the rest of it.
The bonus seems to calculate your base Rewards, then if you got a 4 Kill in AIR RB, you got about 4k of Base RP.

Which means that 4k of RP will be allowed to research the new vehicule of the new country your playing.

It is helpful for completing trees, as not many trees are alike Sweden,… and it’s helpful to grind new ones from start.

The only problem is that SL multiplier is not following.

Define “too easy”. Nearly all of the trees take a year to grind even with Premium time unless you no-life it or make it a second job.

Then they nerfed the multipliers, nerfed earnings with the Severe Damage mechanic and there’s a missing RP bug that has not been fixed in years. Multiple millions of new RP and SL requirements have been added without the corresponding increase in multipliers. Last summer’s “change” only resulted in about a 9 to 12% overall decrease in the grind. Not enough.

People stay invested in the game if they think the developers are listening and aren’t just using the playerbase as nothing more than a source of loot. My premium time just ran out and I don’t know if its worth purchasing again since I’m not getting good value for my money. There is no sense of reward anymore, just endless grind while Gaijin gives us the finger. Also, define “too fast”. Gaijin has never given us their expectations on how long it should take to complete a tree. They just milk the playerbase dry while pretending to make changes.

The stompy robots game and the other ship game give more and better rewards on a yearly basis. Gaijin could learn from that.

in one year with premium account and some premium planes, i reached top tier in USA, and rank 6 in Germany, Italy, France.

so it’s not too hard. but you need to pay at least for premium account if you want to spent less time in game :)

It shouldn’t take a year for anything in this game. What other game takes a year to reach the end? I did have Premium until yesterday, but I also have a full time job already. How many hours a week did you spend in the game?

So what do the long-time, non-newb players get?

also I do have a full time job, and a small kid.

I play 2/3 hours about 5 days a week.
But usually i finish first in every game.
