Regarding the Kronshtadt, it should be noted that the ship as it was implemented in-game is borderline paper due to her current armament setup. The hull was laid down, no doubt about it. However, the 305 mm/55 B-50 Pattern 1940 guns themselves were never built nor was their design even finished. The same applies to the ammunition, hence Gaijin had to invent shells for the ship. Due to the delays, the Soviets ultimately modified the design as Project 69-I and decided to rearm the ship with the German 38 cm SK C/34 gun.
As for the topic of this discussion, I think changing the name would probably be the best way forward in terms of the Mobelwagen test vehicle. Even Doyle seems to view the Mobelwagen and the Zerstörer 45 as separate vehicles. That being said considering the Ostwind II exists in-game (which coincidentally Doyle stated was nothing more than a late war proposal that Ostbau-Sagan lacked any capacity to produce) I don’t think adding the Wirbelwind-looking Flakpanzer IV (3 cm Flakvierling) would be too controversial.
I find there to be a difference in the circumstances preventing something from being produced and just completely lacking the knowledge, industry/means and ability to do so.
There is, in the case of Kronshtadt it was very much just the manufacturer of the guns who dropped the ball. As for the Ostwind II, It’s just a matter of considering the late-war realities that Ostbau-Sagan was facing
The Ostwind ll at least isn’t an overly ambitious project that is beyond the capabilities of the German military industry, which is also why I have a lot less issue with random vehicles like the Tiger 105 or Panther ll being in the game opposed to a Kronshtadt, whilst their implementation is the main issue, it wasn’t a fantasy project like the P.1000 or whatever.
The Panther II in-game is an utter fantasy project, though, on the levels of the tanks that WoT makes up. It’s an amalgamation of four separate projects:
Panther II hull
Schmalturm turret for the Panther Ausf. F, made after the Panther II project had been cancelled; the Panther II intended to use the schmale Blendenausfuehrung turret
8,8 cm proposal, unrelated to either the Panther II or the Panther Ausf. F; would’ve had to use a modified and enlarged turret, Gaijin had to shrink the breech in-game to make it fit
FG 1250 night vision, implemented on late-war Panther Ausf. G tanks starting from 1944; wasn’t fitted on Panther Ausf. F and introduced a year after the end of the Panther II project
It’s in the end the dev decision whether they want believe the Mobelwage is a completely different from the Zerstörer 45 or not all i can do now is opening a new topic so i can minimise the misunderstanding caused by Gaijin and try to change the name with a bug report
It’s pretty much the same vehicle WoT has, all based on that old mistake Doyle made and then corrected later. Mistranslated a few documents discussing proposals to make an 8.8cm armed Panther from what I remember.
Honestly, that’s one tank though that could be brought back to the game in its corrected form (ie with the schmale Blendenausfuehrung turret and a 7.5), could even do the American Panther II with Ausf G turret hybrid thing.
I never said there isn’t, but an 8,8 cm Panther is still a paper design and shouldn’t be readded. The Panther II could be added with either its intended turret or the Ausf. G turret.
That’s what should have happened in the first place, it’s Gaijin that decided to just make something up so they could fill a gap, only the remove them again and leaving the same gap it was supposed to fill.
Only the intended turret should be added. Ausf. G turret is unhistorical as it was never intended-being added postwar by the US.
I know people want consistency when it comes to adding paper vehicles, but it would be far more prudent to take it on a case-by-case basis. Japan is in far more need of prototype and mockup vehicles than the US for example.
People for some dumb reason keep bringing up the Ho-Ri and R2Y2, when these vehicles were added several years ago. Gaijin already acknowledged their ahistoricity and plans to remove them when appropriate replacements can be found. But in the case of the Zerstrorer, both the Mobelwagen and production variant are historical, so Gaijin simply went with the “more” historical option. Although I do understand the frustration when there are more recent vehicles (not ships) that were added with production features that were never made irl
The R2Y2 V1 was rumored. So that was isn’t necessarily fake since it does have some irl connotations. However, the V2 and V3 are fake/an artist’s interpretation, i do wonder who the artist was.
The V1, V2, and V3 are just the same proposals that the Kikka had before the underwing engine option was chosen due to its simplicity among the three.
Spoiler
Kikka design proposals
As far as I know, the R2Y2 went through the same process with the claim coming from an engineer of the project. However, that is pretty dubious, and as seen with the O-I project, what engineers say doesn’t always line up to reality.
