Basic Background

The German Luftwaffe has so far ordered six IRIS-T SLM air defense systems from the manufacturer Diehl Defence, all estimated to be in operational by 2027 - one delivered to the Luftwaffe Flugabwehrraketengruppe 61 in Todendorf earlier this year, one in testing by BAAINBw - while the Lieutenant General Lutz Kohlhaus, Deputy Inspector General of the Luftwaffe estimates that at least six additional systems are needed - i.e. it is anticipated that twelve IRIS-T SLM systems will initially be deployed with Flugabwehrraketengeschwader 1 of the Luftwaffe.
However, this is only the beginning: a total of around 50 systems are planned, which are to be procured in the future to comprehensively expand not only the Air Force’s capabilities but also the Heers ground-based air defense. Although the exact distribution of these 50 systems between the Luftwaffe and the Heer has not yet been finalized, it is considered certain that the Army will have significantly stronger air defense capabilities of its own in the future - this will complement already ordered systems, such as the Boxer Skyranger.
Furthermore, plans are already underway to integrate the IRIS-T SLX guided missile, currently under final development, in order to further enhance the overall system’s capabilities. If the order is placed in a timely manner, a corresponding “proof of concept” could be realized as early as 2029.
As part of further development, Diehl Defence presented the new system configuration at Enforce Tac 2026: a standardized launch container with eight cells capable of firing both IRIS-T SLM and SLX missiles. The new Launcher, significantly increases the system’s flexibility and operational capability, as different interceptor missiles can be used within the same platform, while the Mercedes ARCOCS platform is also more mobile and cheaper - even though the Platform can be up to the customer.

The Flugabwehr-Raketen-System IRIS-T SLM/X Overall

The IRIS-T SLM air defense system is a medium-range air defense system derived from the air-launched IRIS-T guided missile. Development began in 2007, and the system entered service in 2022. The missile weighs approximately 130 kg and is powered by a solid-fuel rocket motor with thrust vector control, enabling it to reach speeds of around 1,020 m/s (approximately Mach 3). Target guidance is initially provided by inertial navigation and GPS, supported by a data link for course corrections, before an imaging infrared seeker takes over target acquisition in the terminal phase. The warhead is an 11.4 kg fragmentation warhead with proximity and impact fuses. Structurally, the missile features a modified ogive nose cone that is jettisoned prior to the terminal phase to expose the seeker head, while the propulsion system supplied by Nammo has an increased diameter of 152mm.
The advanced variant, the IRIS-T SLX, aims to significantly expand the range of applications and is designed to be integrated without fundamental changes to existing SLM launchers and fire control systems. Although not officially confirmed, the SLX uses a dual-mode seeker with imagining infrared and a secondary ARH seeker. In addition, a dual-pulse rocket motor is reportedly to be used to increase range and maneuverability, particularly in the terminal phase.
While the IRIS-T SLM in its standard configuration can engage targets at ranges of approximately 40 km and altitudes up to 20 km, ranges of up to 80 km and operational altitudes of around 30 km are cited for the SLX. This makes the system particularly well-suited for engaging aircraft, cruise missiles, drones, and long-range precision weapons.

The Transporter-Erector-Launcher (TEL) of the new IRIS-T SLM/SLX system presented by Diehl Defence is based on a Mercedes-Benz Defence Arocs 8×8 truck; with an engine output of up to 625 hp, a maximum torque of approximately 3,000 Nm, and a maximum payload capacity of 27 tons.
The established Hensoldt TRML-4D will continue to be used - a modern 3D multifunction radar featuring AESA technology - to make some more varianty in-game, it could also be added on a different, lighter and more mobile platform.

I hope I can manage to make a custom missile still, just to see how cracked it could be xP

1+, As Dontkev said, its a SLM but on crack. Definitely a worthy Upgrade of what we have right now.

And if the Dual Seeker turns out to be real, its even resistant to LDIRCM :3
