I was talking about aim 9ls
Solution, remove Napalm from MiG-21/23’s. I don’t care about their grinding, they’re better off using their very capable fighters to PVP.
Remove CAS ability during ARB to anyone but Strike fighters
Oh. Sorry, I misread.
AIM-9L is still one of the best ‘non-IRCCM’ IR missiles.
But somewhat annoying to use when flying with Tornado IDS.
Or just give it Aim-9Es and move it to 10.0
Needs buffs/IR rework though, should be unflarable if the target is on reheat.
No. Imagine a Tornado against 9.0 aircraft lmao.
They literally cannot do anything to it until it runs out of fuel.
Weakest it ever used was Aim-9G at which point it would be like 11.0 when compared with the Jaguar Gr1A at 10.7. But the Tornado (at 11.3) is perfectly balanced for the BR. But ARB just sucks. Moving it to 10.0 wouldnt actually help all that much imo
Not much different than the F-4C
F-4C is slower, has no countermeasures.
The F-4C is already weak at 10.0 specifically because it has no countermeasers.
F-4C has a better gun and is better at turning
The only reason the F-4C isn’t higher is because of the lack of CM’s.
The Tornado CANNOT go to 10.0, period.
There is quite literally nothing short of a Kfir Canard catching it if it goes down there.
Yeah… Its really annoying that some vehicles get access to weapons used by other nations but not all. Britian reserverd the right to use Napalm but didnt carry it actively. So Phantoms, Jaguar, Harriers, etc probably all could use Napalm. Also the Buc S2 and Sea Vixen specifically list Napalm in their manuals but has yet to be added (was reported about 3 years ago)
But my hope is that CBUs get added at some point and they have comprable damage/score multipliers to napalm. That would help the Tornado quite a bit, as well as many others.
Closest comparison for a Tornado IDS with weaker IRs than Aim-9L would be the F-111A which is 10.7 with Aim-9Bs or Jaguar Gr1A at 10.7 with Aim-9Gs.
The Tornados at 11.3 are almost under BRed if it wasnt for the compression and bad gamemode design
Yeah at 10.0 it would be literally invincible with the only drawback being the boaty flight model.
It would have to lose BOZ pods and have no CMs to be at that BR. 9Gs would probably be fine though for the BR (thinking Jaguar Gr1 at 9.7)
Assuming we drop the Aim-9Ls for Aim-9Es or Gs, I do not see the problem. Let’s look at the comps
Mig 21 smt & MF: 10.3, cm, better dogfighters
F-104J: 10.3, 6x Aim-9Ps, faster
Mirage 5BA: 10.3 cms, better dogfighter, 2x Aim 9J
Are you going to tell me that these are not better than the Tornado, even in its current form?
BR drops are unreasonble for the 3 Tornado IDS at 11.3 currently, they are as low as they can go but arent a problem in an downtier, which is very rare.
The 3 at 11.7 desperately need to be dropped down to 11.3 as they have 0 reason to be at 11.7 (and the GR1 needs its Mk103 engines)
Universal buffs for the Tornado IDS though:
- Total overhaul of its radar to fully model the Ground Mapping Radar. It should also have a basic SRC radar.
- Introduction of CBUs such as the BL755. These could be given similar damage multipliers to napalm, giving nations/vehicles that didnt have napalm an equal alternative. Would help a lot with balance
- Combat thrust which would give the Tornado a limited but decent boost of its max speed (this could be overtuned slightly to compensate for the drag issues the Tornado currently has)
- Introduction of ECM such as Sky Shadow, to further enhance the Tornados defensive capabilities vs radar guided threats.
- Completion of the FM (not currently possible due to game limitations, but maybe someday)
General gameplay improvements
- Total overhaul of ARB to make it a lot friendlier to ground attack aircraft or the introduction of an RB EC gamemode (The Tornado is very good in Sim)
- IR overhaul which would improve Aim-9L performance as they are currently too easy to flare.
