Hey guys, I’ve unlocked this piece of junk and I don’t why it’s sooooooo nerfed compared to the other version of F-18C/late while being on the same BR.
Most of the time with other planes after a while and some spading, I get how to play them and manage to have some good games.
With this one, I’m ALWAYS outspotted by ennemies radars, I mean, whatever mode I chose, they ALWAYS lock me and shoot me before my radar can.
NO CAS weapons, for fuck sake, what a cheap move to pull on this. And it’s somehow harder to aim with it’s canons then with the Viggen.
It’s slow for it’s BR, barely mac 1 and below the speed of the viggen spaded too.
In short, this plane is a punishment to play as the others have way better, even with 10 missiles with such a poor radar, you end up relying to IR missiles which are not the best either in the game, and push you to engage close combat for which this plane is not the best at all either.
I don’t see why all the nerfs, no A2G weapons, meh IR missiles, no HMS, dogshit radar, slow, hard to aim with the canon, super expensive spading, crazy and boring.
Well, getting this junk at BR 14 after having ground all the tech tree feels fucking insulting to say the least.
It’s like Gaijin is telling us : go play fodder for russian and US planes…

The viggen C canon is just fantastic, I could kill so many jets way faster than this fat Hornet garbage.
Idk maybe still some fine tuning to do and spading.
Literally only difference between C late and finish C is lack of ground ordnance which is irrelevant to overall air battles performance and lack of HMS which again no BLUFOR jet bar france has any real use for due to lack of dogfight missiles.
10 Amrams with shit radar is like having 10 wonderful sniper bullets in a shotgun without scope.

Also when it’s that hard to get some kills, some ground ordnance would have helped for the spading though, since I can’t kill anything on the ground anymore with that plane.
Also just remembered ICE has the upgraded Hornet A radar (which should bring it to the AN/APG-73 standard AFAIK) and ICE is perfectly capable as AMRAAM platform.
Generally I agree with you BUT the HMS is really nice to have with the aim 7s so that you can continue to fly in the “safe zone” below 40m and still lock targets above you and to the sides.
Eh, i find HMS on planes without dogfight missiles to be situational at best (and on F-4J/S i think its borderline useless) but thats more matter of preference.
I was thinking more of off-bore shots with thrust vectoring missiles or things like R-77s in a knifefight.
At 8kms most missiles have enough time to pull in, but even then i usually tend to give them as much lead as possible to increase chance of hit, so i dont get to use HMS that much.
Also you can’t say Gaijin keep it to reality with the no A2G while they took off the HMS for nothing.

No, its just that the Finnish F-18C is from 1994 before JHMCS was created and added to US hornets in 2002. The US Hornet is from the 2007 while the Finnish is 1994. Had gaijin added MLU 1 it would’ve had HMD and a new IFF.
Additionally as the F-18 is now the best Cap fighter for GRB (sweden specificly) even worse because it cant detect K Band like the US model so if a Pantsir sees you, goodluck dodging the missile in time since you don’t know its coming. Additionally it has less modules so its a longer grind for your actual parts to be competitive (side tangent).
All of that makes it totally irrelevent at BR 14, don’t you think?
The best I can do when I don’t get shot by half the opposite team before my radar catch even one of them, is to kill one or two at best. And it’s because I spam my missiles like a pig before being shot down by some russian extra better than anything else missiles that doesn’t care about me notching and chaffing brutally, lol!
Rarely anything beyond that and I rarely see the end of any match.
I mean dont get me wrong its not 14.0 worthy but the BR’s are compressed. The F-18C would be hell to fight against with a 12.7 fighter, imo considering gaijin is skipping the first unique Finnish F-18 being the MLU it should never have been the 1994 model if gaijin was gonna add a 2007 model to the US. My biggest gripe is that this 14.0 vehicle is just a bandaid so gaijin can avoid adding an actual 14.0 worthy vehicle to sweden. Its just my opinion and gaijin has shown they have no interest in sweden air anyways. Regardless at 14.0 its a vehicle that can fight but needing to defend is harder since you have to pull more to get nose on target so you can feed your missile updated data from your radar which puts you at a disadvantage against every other ARH capable fighter with HMD.
Do you think there is a chance they update/upgrade that jet before long?

Just read down from there for a little bit. The rough summary is unless your someone who actually plays sweden nobody cares. Hur dur sweden ground is annoying so i must hate sweden as a whole is the majority of the mindset going into it. To answer your question no, the majority of people who play sweden air will do better than the US F/A-18C Late players considering most of their players are about as function as a box of fungi. So no the F-18C likely wont get the Thai OCU treatment and get HMS. If anything i wouldn’t be suprised if the F-18C goes up in BR while the US model doesn’t.
