we need updates to fighter survivability but apparently people are too stuck on the past too realize it
pilot survivbiltiy is kinda different cause where talking about super humans who can withstand 16G turns
also depending on where round and shrapnel lands you can survive a 7.5MM or 12.7 like ingame if it hits a non vital area head shots are obviously one taps but like a shin shot would not kill someone nearly as quickly very slippery slope
Germany has had realshatter for 3 updates now dude.
The past informs the future. The thread about 20mm MG151 doing too much damage is three years old at this point and is from a time when MG.151 did not have realshatter mechanic attached to it.
The Leviathans update HE damage change about a year ago is the only time that MG.151 damage was reduced below a level where it was at 3 years ago. This is the only timeframe where MG.151 damage was realistic enough for the likes of the realism advocates.
This is what MG.151 damage looked like after Leviathans update. It took the better part of 6 months to fix it to the point where damage is at today. Every other HE gun was somehow even nerfed to an even greater extent based on whatever coding Gaijin had changed. Keep in mind the above damage was deemed satisfactory and preferable to pre-realshatter MG.151 damage by people like Loofah and Kiwi.
You go up higher in the thread and see @dannaryan-psn defending the damage state that ShVAK was in prior to its first buff 5+ years ago.
Even if we go look at realshatter 1.0 this is what damage for ShVAK looked like.
People honestly forget how bad damage used to be and how much Gaijin has messed it up in the past.
the MG-151s did most damage out every other 20mm due to them have literally double the filler of most other rounds it was completely historically accurate
before they gave them realshatter they did significantly less damage than any other round ingame
i know i was talking in past tense
The first clip is from Leviathans update when Gaijin broke HE damage for everything a year ago. Damage was so bad that it prompted this video which details what happened. Prior to Leviathans update the common complaint amongst realism advocates is that MG.151 was over-performing and did too much damage; additionally that everything else was over-performing by even greater margins, and that everything should have been scaled to relate to their ideal nerfed MG.151.
The “completely historically accurate” update was widely unpopular.
Here is another clip of what “realistic” MG151 did.
Now remember that a lot of other guns were hit even worse than MG.151 was by whatever goofy change happened in the code.
ive pondered this question more in instructor mode i feel it would difficult but flyable it would be hard to code but it should be flyable if damage is flyable IRL but you would actually need to be good enough to fly it
The answer is that in-game the yellow / orange damage that you have on your aircraft is similar to this. War Thunders damage model only completely removes parts when they are aerodynamically useless. This is why tails detach in-game even though in real life they would not. It is a design decision by the developers to make the game more visually appealing / feel rewarding.
it shouldnt tho cause without a tail you cannot land a crippled plane
In-game if any of your control cables get clipped then you lose tail control. The aircraft in the picture still has some of its vertical stabilizer and it all of its horizontal stabalizer.
In War Thunder you can return to base missing most of your wings. It is not even an instructor-only issue either.
yeah which is why i want updated damage models
You might want to make your argument completely distinctive from the usual crowd of people that have been advocating for “realistic” damage for the past 5 years who want basically anything bar MG.151 to be ineffective against fighter planes.
We have multiple threads at this point.
This is what realshatter 1.0 ShVAK looked like. This is prior to increasing the number of fragments produced from 1-2 to 3-4. This was something that negatively impacted all cannons with realshatter.
Gaijin made a minor increase in number of fragments produced.
And no sooner that happened the usual suspects began complaining again. This is from around 2 weeks after fragments were fixed the first time.
This is from the same poster by the way and similar timeframe.
This is what pre-realshatter ShVAK looked like before it was buffed over 5+ years ago. This was in a timeframe when the Yak-3U was at 5.3 BR because the guns were useless.
yeah but im not talking about nerfing guns thats the difference my argument is where STILL using same damage models from like 2013 on most of the fighters they need massive updates the tail control is still all one piece even tho some fighters have seperate tail control so you hit one part of it the other part still works
so many survivbility updates need to happen
