Since the F/A-18D is finally in the game one would expect it to be available to all nations that used it, mainly the nation that actually built it.
But no.
Currently it’s being kept exclusively for Japan through Malaysia. The reason being “The US already has a few Hornets in their TT” shouldn’t make a difference when talking about a different model that they actually used.
The model is already made all that needs changing is the skin so why not add it to the US too?
I say add the F/A-18D to the US tech tree as well. It’s not pushing any gameplay boundaries by a long shot but it would be a great option to have foldered and would hopefully set a precedent for other twin-seat vehicles that are being kept exclusive to other nations like the F-16D and F-100F to come to their nation of origin.
Should the F/A-18D be also added to the US this update?
agreed. Im glad its in the game (since malaysia only used the F/A-18D model) and it should be added for at least the US since they built it. But as long as its being represented in game, thats all that matters at the end of the day
Foldered and with the ATFLIR rather than sniper / litening.
Rather funny that even more nations this patch get new US vehicles before the US, this time being Germany getting the Mark 13 armed DDGs, the 18D being in the Japanese tree, and the SEP V3 derived M1A2T arriving in the Chinese tree of all things before the US.
They are by far and in large the biggest F-16D (and Twin seat viper) Operator globally, it’s more fair to represent that through the Barak, than a US 16D
It would be fair to represent it through both nations, not keeping it exclusive and forcing players that want it to grind out Israel. If they then wanted the Israeli F-16D then yes they should grind Israel. But there should always be that choice were applicable.
Incentivising ≠ Forcing
People who are passionate about a unique variant can grind the tree it’s present in, 99% of players are happy with the F-16C which is superior, more iconic and more thematic.
Israel on the other hand is very well known for their usage of twin seater F-16s, ranging from F-16Bs/Ds and should be represented as a unique representation of the F-16 family
The USAF on the other hand has made very limited operational F-16B/D usage, and it fills a very niche opinion to see it in both, which both reduces uniqueness across the game and appealing to a very small niche who even care.
Its very much so not, it is a V3 but with the FMS kit installed instead of the NGAP along with some hull modifications from the M1A2K.
This is one of the many mistakes oxy made on stream.
Fun fact as well, it should not have KE-W A2 as the US never sold such to Taiwan and such is directly stated in the DOW release on the transaction attached above.
From everything I can find it’s derived from the SEPV2 but includes features from the SEPV3 specifically some of the electronics and FCS. The official suggestion that passed to the Devs also states it’s derived from the SEPV2.
Nice, I would direct you to the DOW statement above.
You may note the fact that beyond the FMS package and ammo, everything included is standard to the V3 or the M1A2K which is a M1A1 AIM chassis with V3 upgrades and a turret without the NGAP upgrade just like the T.
The T is a K modified to Taiwanese standards, and the K is a V3 modified off of a M1A1 AIM hull and the FMS armor package.
It is very much so not a V2 in any part of the conversion beyond the fact that the V2 and earlier share earlier make towing mounts.
Hmmmm so if gaijin is modeling it off the suggestion then im assuming the turret is missing protection because SEPV3 FMS is more protected than the standard FMS package.
It’s not “US main that want everything” it’s “players want to play the US for US equipment, not Japan”.
Japan getting the F/A-18D is absolutely fine, helps their TT by giving them a 14.0 aircraft. The issue is making US equipment exclusive to other nations.
