Now spade the worst Legacy Hornet

I have finally acquired the CF-188A :D

Hey, who needs HMD, any form of radar missile aside from AIM 120 and a longer stock grind all while also not having K band or any CAS to try and get a bit of side XP. Just getting the 9M’s takes about as long as getting AIM 7P on any of the other 14.0 hornets.

Come one, can’t have a solid experience till you’ve played the worst 14.0 and also the worst hornet lol

depends on the context

it is actually the best leagacy hornet for dueling

but for normal gameplay, i agree, it is probably the worst hornet

Dueling in this economy only really happens in bullet hell when nobody is around you so very unlikely you’ll get to use your agility, also what you mean probably?

It’s the only 14.0 hornet without HMD/HMS so you’re worse at defending and you also lack K band while having a longer grind for basic modules unlike the other hornets

there are 1v1 duelling communities for both arb an sim

Last time I saw a duel I also saw 15 missiles flying towards both as everyone started screaming “mine”

it happens. like once in a 50 games or so. still not worth the tradeoff though.

@MatrixRupture what aoa could the fa18c sustain again.
just found out that the 30sm can sustain 35 aoa indefinitely, wonder if the 18c can match that

Legacy Hornet is good for 34 degrees AOA in the free to roll zone.

Su-27 is 25 I’m surprised Su-30 is 35.

Harrier is infinite lol only experiences light buffet at 40.

Jet engines produce less thrust when installed in an aircraft due to reduced/dirty airflow from the ducting

  1. Why are you necroposting?
  2. I think he knows, not like it is his job to maintain these types of things or something…

Interesting photo I found, of an F/A-18A (based on tailfin antenna config) with mismatched F404s. Iirc this photo was from the very late 1980s (I think 1989).

How so are they mismatched?
Both have dark inner plates (as opposed to white ones of GE402)

Look at the exhaust petals. One’s notched with overlapping petals (late 80s), other one has straight petals with no notches (seen on early A/B models and the F-20)

Oh, I see
I thought it was about GE400 and GE402
That’s interesting really

F-18 can use mismatched engines due to close coupling of the engines, thrust differences matters less than on something like F-14.

Yeah, I kinda figured that out while looking into the notched vs unnotched F404 thing lol.

Interestingly though, the F404 exhaust petals weren’t the only slight difference I noted. Some F/A-18As (pretty sure super early production ones) had shorter bottom RWR fairings on the vertical tailfin, compared with some of the later production ones…
Short RWR fairings
Long RWR fairings
