Skip to the end where I engage a mig29 with an aim7p, absolutely insane, legit made me tweak out. I’m just done trying to make this jet work, I’m just going to fly it like a suicidal maniac from here on out. I tried but the F18C early is. just. not. good.

Idk I feel like i’m losing my damn mind because I genuinely can’t make it work lol, it’s throwing me off

Two seat f18s never get old.

Seriously. Please someone explain to me why my AIM7P’s are so pathetically incapable of holding lock for more than a few seconds, these people are doing 15g turns at the most, far within the enveloppe of the missile and they JUST. MISS.

I’m done.

Believe me buddy, its not just the 7P, all sparrows are infamous in WT for just leedling off, usually at teammates way WAY out of their field of view or off to narnia tracking … something I guess.

The 7Ps when they first dropped did feel like a improvement, but as of late I’ve outright lost rack of how many 7Ps I’ve fired that just track nothing, something completely different, or a teammate way off outside of my CW beam. The best part is that the DL should prevent all of the above from occurring and it did in the past, but now 7Ps just feel like 7M/Fs now, with the datalink seemingly doing nothing to keep the missile’s seeker pointed at the actual target.

What I would give for gaijin to just copy the R-27’s guidance code to the 7P, I would bet good money it would go from the weird state it is in, to hunting people to the ends of the earth like the R-27ER does.

I just want someone to look at the replays Ive posted, look at TAC view and tell me what I’m doing wrong honestly, because I want to get better at this plane, I really do!

In the context of stopping sparrows doing weird stuff.

Seriously, I’ve gone back to so SO many replays to just see a sparrow seeker notice a random penny on the ground next to a non flaring enemy only to then snap like a aimbot to my teammate 30 miles off to my right and WAY out of the CW beam, they make 0 sense and fully have a mind of their own.

Probably the best recommendation that I can give to at least sort of reel in sparrows being dumb is just close the distance as much as possible, unlike the R-2X series you don’t have the luxury of a seeker that is a terminator and always tracks your target, its sparrows act like dogs with ADHD, they go off their target the first chance they get, the less time of flight present the less chance your sparrow has to notice that you have a teammate in your proximity that looks like they could use a hug or that a random patch of air somewhere in the map is suddenly interesting.

to me it seems like it makes a big difference depending on what radar you use

on the F-2 for example i didnt had any issues with the Aim-7 but then on the F-16A ADF they are doing weird stuff

If a target turned 15G, a missile would need to have 45G to effectively hit them. This is the 3x rule traditionally given to ordnance of the time period the AIM-7 was invented. More modern ordnance has better seekers, better tracking… they don’t need such maneuverability to overcome these problems.

If you would post a video of your problem and in the correct thread, I am sure someone would have good pointers to give you. Without that - your complaints do us no good and aren’t on topic.

Could someone message me the link to the AIM7 thread? I can’t find it.

If none of these satisfy you, feel free to create one. I would like to participate in a dedicated AIM-7 History, Performance, Discussion thread.

The sekrit ingredient for R27R to work with their datalink is very weak seeker, that actually starts tracking at mere 15-20km away, unlike Sparrows which, depending on guiding radar strength can start tracking well outside of their kinematic range at 40km+, by extension making themselves vulnerable to various stuffs that can enter seeker view and be deemed as more appealing.

Then datalink merely updates IOG target location, IOG is ignored when seeker sees “something”, regardless if this something is intended target, unintended friendly or metallic fart.

Is this a common occurrence for anyone else?

Just had the Sparrows Kill me three times by detonating as soon as they leave the rail, seemingly not managing to track anything in fleet of bomber sized target at short range.

That literally happened to me in the gripen with the 7e2… I’m like how tf did I just die. when it said I had simply crashed I realized my missile simply somehow proxied the moment it left rail

How recent was it? Do you have a replay for it.

I could potentially expand the report if you have more data.

Hmmm it was like a week ago. I’ll go see if I can go get server replay for it when I get home

Not sure if anyone here will have the answer, but does anyone know what company manufactured the F/A-18A’s HUD/UFPC and MFDs?

The HUD and MFDs were by Kaiser Electronics - part of Rockwell Collins (now Collins Aerospace/RTX).
For Spain’s F/A-18 MLUs they’re licence-manufactured by Tecnobit nowadays, and that might also be the case for other export customers.

Wonderful, thank you! Do the MFD + UFCP and MFDs have a name or designation at all?

is the swiss f/a-18 unable to land on a carrier? my hook doesnt work at all in sim
