Imo .50s are garbage. I can’t do much of anything with them. My favorite guns are probably the M39s or the NR-23s or the N-37 on the Mig-15s.
are you using the API, I and API-T belts? (Tracer and Universal) the M8, M20 and M23 are all extremely destructive to aircraft several times more than they ought to be, will saw off some aircraft wings if only 2-3 hit with some of the worst done damage models in game.
Those that fare better in their DMs are battered like its 20mm hispano and then cooked alive. Genuinely insane ordinance to use, Im seriously hoping for a significant nerf to rounds smaller than 15mm to aircraft, its frankly stupid
default, mostly on the F-84G to pilot snipe in head-ons as it has the most AP, and an API-T as the starter round for maximum muzzle velocity. I’ve tried uni however default actually shears wings off sometimes for me. But having played the Chinese F-30, it’s mostly crits and hits. Cannons delete stuff.
thats where youre going wrong. You want to prioritise incendiary rounds in the belt to chew up and cook planes rather than focusing on pilotsniping.
the pilot is useless if the plane around them disintegrates.
