F-4E AUP - The Legend lives on!

When he says Viper, he means as the F-16V “VIPERs”, as in the Block 72s. I haven’t looked into this myself but according to him they specifically haven’t been seen with IRIS-Ts

Furthermore, the F-16V designation only applies to older F-16A/Cs modernized to the Block 70/72 standard.

Newly built F-16C 70/72 is never referred to as the F-16V in official documents.

Just saying this to clear up any misunderstanding or confusion.

Yea also Greek ones are from modernization kits that Greece bought and the upgrade is happening on Greece

well techniclly we will soon since greece is modernizing there block 52s to the 72

Most of the planes have been already upgraded, but we still haven’t seen one carrying IRIS-T and I don’t think we will see for some time because I don’t think the Americans will let Greeks play with the Software and Hardware so they can put the IRIS-T in the block 70/72

Really?

Yea the program started in 2018 and it’s going to end next year, also last year it was decided that also Block 50 will also be upgraded in Viper configuration

F-16.net has everything about 16s covered! They are integrated.

For IRIS-T , i’ve found this, but i don’t know if it is valid.

and i quote:
“The program was completed in Greece in 2004 with the addition of the Rafael Litening II sensor pod for targeting and navigation for close air support weapons such as precision-guided bombs and Raytheon AGM-65 Maverick missiles and the advanced IRIS-T air-to-air missile. The F-4E(AUP) Phantoms were all delivered to 117th Combat Wing at Andravida painted in the ‘Aegean Ghost’ scheme.”

Look, integrating it is one thing…using it is another. I don’t think Greece currently needs to have armed with IRIS-T planes for local interceptions, mainly against Turkey which is a NATO nation as well.
And those missiles stocks are mainly for F-16s. So i don’t think you’ll see an F-4 armed with it, integrated or not. They don’t have JHMCS anyway.

BTW as i try to find about if it can use 120C , i found an IRIAF one with a test (if i see the the colors , red) with PL-12C on …!!! WTF.

Interesting, but why should the IRIS-T need the Litening II? I guess Greece did it as you said.

Yea I saw this source yesterday while I was looking the matter myself as I am thinking to write suggestion for the
F-16 block 52+ (HAF first to use it) and F-16 block 52+ Advanced (unique to Greece and some call it F-16M) and later for the Viper of its unique enough.

Yea they are too valuable to use them with the F-4 the same way we don’t see it carrying AIM-120C-5 and C-7, or the Exocet we haven’t seen them in the Rafales (and we won’t) because Rafales are too valuable to be wasted for anti-ship

It doesn’t. The integration of LITENING and IRIS-T was the last part of the upgrades that took place in 2004.

*Rafael Litening II sensor pod for targeting and navigation for close air support weapons such as precision-guided bombs and Raytheon AGM-65 Maverick missiles and the advanced IRIS-T air-to-air missile."
I don’t understand this part

You skipped the start…and an and!

Yea I might be an idiot

I am gonna fix the suggestion but I hope in game to be just with the AIm-9M and AMRAAM of course so it can stay 13.0

Has the RWR on this aircraft been updated to a different version? I flew the F-5TH, and with version 13.0, that RWR is pretty stressful.

It was improved, expect a similar one with the one that the German F-4F ICE has at 13.0
