F-16I Sufa: The Negev Storm

The F-16I Sufa is a specialized Israeli variant of the American F-16 Fighting Falcon, developed in the early 2000s amidst growing military modernization in the Middle East.

  • More powerful engine
  • Improved radar
  • Expanded suspended ordnance
  • Excellent handling characteristics

Vehicle History

By the mid 1990s, Israel sought to replace aging aircraft like the F-4 Phantom II and A-4 Skyhawk, while also complementing its fleet of F-15s and earlier F-16s, as neighboring states were acquiring more advanced Russian aircraft and air defense systems. In 1999, Israel signed a deal with the United States under the Peace Marble V program, leading to the procurement of 102 two-seat F-16Is, making it the largest single fighter purchase in Israeli history.

The Sufa (“Storm”) was heavily modified to meet Israel’s unique operational needs, featuring conformal fuel tanks for extended range, Israeli-made avionics, electronic warfare suites, helmet-mounted sights, and compatibility with domestic weapons. Its two-seat configuration also allowed for improved mission management, especially for deep strike and suppression of enemy air defense (SEAD) roles.

Entering service in 2004, the F-16I quickly became the backbone of the Israeli Air Force (IAF), participating in operations such as 2006’s Lebanon War and later strikes in Syria, demonstrating the effectiveness of the upgrades the platform received. To date, the F-16I remains one of the most modern fighters employed by the Israeli air force.

Introducing the F-16I Sufa !

In the Tusk Force major update, the Israel aviation tree will gain access to one of the most advanced fighters currently employed by the IAF, namely the F-16I Sufa. Although based on the American F-16 Block 52, the Sufa represents an extensive upgrade program to the F-16 platform including many domestic Israeli systems. Let’s take a further look at this fighter!

Visually, the Sufa might closely resemble the Barak II which seasoned Israel air players will have already acquainted themselves with. While this may likely be attributed to the twin-seat cockpit layout, the F-16I speaks an entirely different story when throwing a glimpse “under the hood”. Equipped with the new Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-229 turbofan engine the F-16I keeps the dynamic characteristics of its predecessor, despite the slight increase in mass. However, it will obviously lack in dynamics when using new Conformal Fuel Tanks.

Speaking of increased payloads, the Sufa retains the large selection of suspended weapons while also getting new ones meaning that it will have access to the advanced IR (AIM-9L and AIM-9M) and ARH missiles (AIM-120C-5) as well as a large selection of precision guided and unguided bombs. Among the strike weapons, it is worth noting the line of SPICE bombs with a TV guidance, ranging from 250 (new to the game) to 2000 kg. As such, the F-16I can conduct strike missions in combined battles with even greater accuracy while avoiding straying too close to hostile air defences. Another worthy addition is the PAWS-2 MAWS, capable of keeping the pilot aware of incoming missiles.

The F-16I Sufa will soon be making its way to the top rank of the Israeli aviation tree in the Tusk Force major update. In the meantime however, make sure to stay tuned to the news for the latest information regarding the upcoming update. That’s all for today, pilots. Until the next one, we wish you clear skies and good hunting!

Please note that this vehicle’s characteristics may be changed before it is added to the game.

Not exactly peak performance for an F16 at 14.0

Where is python 4?

Looked great on the dev server

Shame about no Python 4 and being overtiered.

What, you want it to be the same BR as the F-16C with a more powerful engine, better radar, MAWS, and AIM-120C? You want 12.7s to have to fight that?

Still waiting Python 4s for stopping Rafale spammers

Python 4 is a matter of game balance consideration. Right now, no other equivalent exists besides RVV-MD. Meaning only 2-3 nations at most could receive a missile of this kind. After that, its only the more advanced generation of missiles that would come to all nations. So its not something planned for this update.

The better engine is entirely cancelled out by just how heavy it is. It’s got the flight performance similar to the F-16D at 13.3. It’s overall better than the F-16D but well worse than the F-15I so the middle ground of 13.7 fits it best.

Somehow this engine produces less thrust than the PW-229 in the F-15 despite being lower channel losses.
@joshje100
It’s marginally heavier than F-16D.

Crazy, imagine researching an F-16 with an premium F-16 xD.

Saying that I love how the US is in third place with the amount of F-16’s it has

I dont think they compare well especially when the rvv md has twice the range of the python 4 and much better kinetic because it has a much longer burn time than the p4 to achieve those ranges
Also p4 has a lot of drag so it would lose a lot of energy after the motor burns out so effective range would probably be 15 km in perfect conditions
Other missile like the 9m and the r73 or aam3 can kill target at 10 km in good conditions

Best F-16 in game isn’t American. Just give it python 4 just to make it more 14.3 worthy.

Hell the mica is already 1 of the best dogfight missile in game and it doesnt havw a proper counter for its agility
R 77 doesnt really count

Difference being the MICA isn’t IR

The thrust curves for the Pw229 for F-16s was adjusted recently, and it’s been so heavily nerfed at every speed except stationary speed which is quite sad, why man. It has worse thrust values in the F-15s with that engine despite the known fact it should have better thrust curves due to channel loss on the F-16s being superior then that on F-15s. You should really have them re-adjusted, these values don’t make a lot of sense.

Would you mind adding the Aim-120B? The aircraft used it when it first entered service. In fact there’s more images of the aircraft using the Aim-120B then the Aim-120C series.

That’s how air industry looks since decades. One airframe evolves, there is no need to reinvent the wheel.
F-16 from, for example 80’s or 90’s it totally different than the one you can see today.

I honestly dont want the ir version to come because it will make everyone that doesnt play france mad

I know I just find it funny but hey the camo’s on the israeli F-16 are sick though, I don’t know how they do it but that camo makes any plane looks good. Just a shame the Mig-29 they yoinked didn’t receive it while it was being tested

Yea cuz putting fat f16 with 6 120c5 is is so fair against 14.3 or even 14.0

Gaijin pls nerf the python 4 irccm and give it to the f16i
It wont break the game

And if not at least lower it to 13.3 since its f16d sidegrade
