in air forces service yes, but when in the Air national guard aircraft tend to stick around longer than front line fighters and thus get upgraded more, thus the ADF name, as the ADF name was the air national guards name for the modernization package (at least for the 90s)

I wouldn’t say it was a sort of modernization, as I’m pretty sure they just wanted to bring it closer to the level of F-15A/C when it came to the air defense mission (especially in the aspect of IFF interegation), and they were first deployed/delivered in 1989.

Why would gaijin put sidewinders on wingtips instead of AMRAAM on wingtips as default AAM loadout…

because gaijin doesn’t take wing flutter seriously, as modern aircraft wings are meant to have some bend in them, the heavier 120 is typically mounted on wingtips to help reduce it, but as in WT flutter is only visual (or non existent depending on which aircraft) its kinda just ignored and AIM-9s are typically put there instead

Is scan rate on F-16 ESM pod correct?

probably not

but will never be fixed

Think it’s way too slow compared with ESM on flankers.

I could be wrong but I don’t see a NATO jet possess fast scan ESM like I mentioned above, most of them rely on HAS which means the seeker of HARM itself.

The HTS pod has a wider scan angle but somehow with a narrower track zone (to track emissions you have to point your nose around it just like HAS)

DK if it was intended, could be gaijjn just CP the data from HAS to model the tracking of HTS

I’m certain the super slow scan and update speed of all NATO aircraft ESM is either a bug or ahistorical.

EW systems are so hyper-classified that since gaijin is making stuff up they might as well make it consistent across all nations as a fudged standard.

The ESM on the Flankers comes from the L-150 RWR afaik, so it makes sense why they would “scan” so fast since it isn’t actually scanning like how the ESM on the F-16s currently is.

Does the F-16 ESM system work this way in real life, actually scanning and such? I have no idea. But it certainly feels like a slog to use in game.

I would definitely prefer if the ESM was modeled the same across the board like L-150, so you could pick up and target things the moment they appear on your RWR.

In the F-16, with the HTS pod equipped, it doesn’t scan, it rather just uses time and triangulation from emitters to find bearing and range. AFAIK, there aren’t any moving parts, it’s just a receiver that picks up on EM emissions.

That make sense, but currently in game it’s scanning much like a mechanical radar.

not to mention it doesn’t even use the correct targeting screen for the F-16 (i know it sure as shit aint correct for the hornets however i haven’t seen a image or a reference image of said screen) should be something like this, as the white ring indicates the range/weapons envelope of the HARM, as it detects radars the number it is will show up in a white box (for example the strellas ranging radars would show up as just 15 i’m not fully sure about radar units like how the SA-75s use a different radar for search and tracking)

Yeah, Gaijin’s got a lot of MFD/HUD symbology messed up on a ton of planes, especially the F-16s.

Yes thats the main difference.
Gaijin doesn’t give the option of RWR based ESM to jets that actually do have such capability.

iirc gubjob internally reported the ESM capability of DASS on typhoon.

When thats actually implemented we may see more NATO jets with fast scan ESM.

I have found some statements claiming the
AN/ALR-69A on F-16 PoBIT is capable of geolocation,
It might translate into fast scan ESM for F-16 ingame.

Geolocation for radar pings through RWR would be so nice in this nuclear thunder event. Would make life so much easier for F-15E when facing the S300 menaces.
