F-15EX Dev Discussion Thread

It is not significantly smaller, it is the exact same size and weight as the PL-15

When did i even claim that it is significantly smaller?

You didn’t, but I’ve seen many claims that the PL-16 is much smaller so the J-20 can fit 6 internally.

Should be faster at high Mach too, the jet is built to supercruise at Mach 1.7-1.8. That graph is not official and is from 2008

The J-20 can carry 6 of the clipped fin version of the PL-15
I even put an image of it in here

PL-16 is designed for exactly the same thing, 6 internal.

With normal PL-15 it is limited

to 4

just saw these claims and test pilots that say f22 has better end acceleration at 40000ft and over Mach 2
and also the GAO / USAF programme estimate | 30,000 ft | M0.8–1.5 | 52.3 s |
James Brown test pilot account | 40,000 ft | M0.9–1.2 | 45 s |
James Brown test pilot account | 40,000 ft | M1.6–1.9 | 22.5s

40000ft is about 12180m
well you look at that f15e in game took about 36s to go from Mach 1.60 to Mach 1.90

and if what James Brown test pilot said the real life f22 took 22.5 s to go from 1.60 Mach to 1.90 that’s impressive at 40000ft or 12.18km

it demonstrated its not just estimation

I wasn’t aware how much bigger the PL-15 is than the AIM-120. It’s about 35% heavier. Thats a significant difference.

What was the condition of the F-22 with weight and loadout?

oh so its demonstrated okay

its F-22 stats from 2006 that shit is redacted or just not shared

It is significantly larger than AMRAAM, 40cm longer 3 cm wider, PL-15 is based on the PL-12 which in itself is derived from the ASPIDE from which it shares it’s characteristics.

Over 40% increase in internal volume, which is why the AIM-260 will beat PL-15 but not significantly so.
PL-16 will have the same advantage while having a more advanced engine technology as the US just started to introduce dual pulse missiles.

Lockheed has been doing dual pulse for a while, since PAC-3 MSE for operational missiles, and the US has done projects with variable thrust rockets for years

We don’t even know if the AIM-260 is dual pulse.

this is the stuff you’ll get from early 2000’s gov F-22 info (2002 SARS)

Is thrust in kg or lb?

idk its hard to say for sure but i think its in lbs and its for only a single engine
the numbers are pretty close to what the EX’s 129’s produce

which should not be the case as F119 is way more powerful. all this stuff seems like it would be very classified anyways so how can we be sure the GAO figures are truly for max power and not a more typical afterburner setting.
