I could’ve sworn I read somewhere that it was proposed to use F110-GE-129 or the F110-GE-429 with thrust vectoring for the ASF-14 or the other one ST-21 (I pretty sure tho it was ASF-14 as that one focused on maneuverability)
Than an F-15?
IIRC yes. It was initially built for TF-30 with bigger airflow than F100. And F-14 has reserve to almost 300lb/sec airflow.
Don’t forget NASA’s F-15 STOL/MTD :)
I remembered a story from the 1970s.
At that time, the US Navy and Air Force were forced to use the F-100 engine as a common basis for the FX and VFAX. Pratt and Whitney asked the FX development office about the amount of airflow they would require for the F-15. They wanted an answer very quickly… because the Navy wanted the engine to have 256 lb/sec. It was clear to FX management that if they didn’t quickly provide the required airflow, they would lose the engine because it would be more suited to the Navy’s F-14. Fredd Rall, a very good engineer, was asked to estimate the required airflow. After a few minutes of thinking, he wrote the number 220 on a piece of paper. Pratt and Whitney was called and told that the airflow would be 220 lb/s. Pratt and Whitney built the engine according to this specification. Fredd Rall estimated the required amount of air very accurately; in the end, it was 224 lb/s. As a result, the Navy lost its engine for the F-14 and had to do with the TF-30 engine for a long time.
I’m not sure what you mean by “despite being before F-15C production”. VTAS was tested on F-15A just like F-14A, it just wasn’t adopted
I know, I said before F15C production because that is proof that it is talking about F15A
honestly im more interested in this for AV8B
because there is evidence for VTAS on F15A, and its not like the current implementation of JHMCS would be much better (its actually missing at least one feature of in game VTAS being an indicator to when the radar is slaved to HMD)
Look at this too
Was some early F-15SA used by USA as test aircraft?

I might be wrong, but i think that this is the F-15SA that you are talking about, flying with bright orange colors (flight test afaik)
Ur photo with MRMLs on F-15EX is F-15SA.
I’ve seen no evidence besides the MAWs being present on it (which might be because it may be one of the first F-15EX prototypes to get out, but with MAWs still mounted). All i see is 16 missiles and an air force roundel on it, on an American website, with a not desert-ish looking background.
Even if you are right, i think that this is enough for gaijin to give it 16 missiles
That picture predates the F-15EX program, it’s one of the other advanced eagles, not the EX. I agree that it’s probably enough for Gaijin, but they’re all over the place so who knows…
Same airplane, different pic from AT LEAST 6 years ago on reddit. Another F-15SA with US roundels, just a different paint scheme
Not to mention the sheer number of F-5s (both Freedom Fighters and Tiger IIs), Starfighters, Sabres, etc that were in service with multiple USAF training squadrons, despite belonging to the very country the US was training (at least on that specific type). Genuinely fascinating stuff :)
Truly disappointing 7 months after making a bug report that F-15E can’t take both SNIPER TGP and chaff dispenser in the same side, gaijin still hasn’t replied to it.
Community Bug Reporting System posting it here so more people are aware (I’m pretty sure all the F-15E enjoyers are but still)
It’s even worse than that.
Flares are allowed on the TGP side, just restricted in position, even for the original LANTIRN pod.
And they have at least 2 editions of the FM(1991 &1993) which state this and they have used for other reports.
