Usually the only times I end up on the deck rating is after I’m out of missiles and low on fuel. Also, I don’t need more than 10 minutes or so to dogfight something at the end of the match (usually).
Thunderskill is less than 5% of the playerbase. It is not a valid sizepool.
Go ahead and ignore the rest of the comment lol, the thunderskill test results also show a discrepenacy in performance of players of one nation vs another regardless of the size of the stat pool.
Isn’t that basically the point? A match is won in the initial trades and ability to make quick kills without getting third-partied, where the F-15’s better acceleration and high speed energy performance will give it the advantage. Chances are in most matches there is never an opportunity for a low altitude rate fight, and if the match is coming down to a few v few, the F-15 would be sensible to prevent such from happening, RTB to get missiles to make it a high and fast BVR fight into hopefully a high-altitude merge.
If you want to play that way, sure. I don’t.
As I said, the F-15 and F-14 will be nothing but variety going forward. There is no reason to pick one over the other unless they give one of them specifically unique armament of some kind and this is a good thing.
The F-15 will be a leap in capability for several reasons.
-
it has greater than 1:1 T/W at combat loads, allowing much greater options for positioning and dogfighting
-
It is very capable in both one circle and two circle dogfights, having sustained turn rates in excess of 20 degrees per sec, as well as excellent instantaneous turn, climb and acceleration performance.
-
The radar, the APG-63, will be among the most capable radars short of PESA/AESA with an interleaved HPRF/MPRF scan allowing much of the detection range of the AWG/9 while having for very tight notch angles.
Along with the possible armament we can look forward to, AIM-9M, a very capable missile featuring IRCCM and a smokeless motor with slightly superior maneuverability to the 9L. As well as the AIM-7P whose advancements were retrofitted to the M, having LoAL, datalink, lofting, and midcourse guidance.
In conclusion the F-15 will not be mere variety, in time it will totally surpass the F-14, initially in the flight performancce and radar, but also armament and mission variety with later F-15s.
The thrust to weight is not always above 1 and in the case of the F-14B in combat loads it has generally a ~1:1 thrust to weight at operational speeds.
It’s still inferior to the F-14B in at least nose authority, if not similarly matched in sustained turn capacity.
The radar isn’t anything special in the context of war thunder, especially when equipped with only Sparrows.
The AIM-9L also featured a smokeless motor towards the end of its’ life with the Mod 9 and newer motors attached to it. These motors have a reduced ISP in comparison to the older models, and as such suffer a ~5% penalty in performance.
AIM-7P’s advancements were not retrofitted to the AIM-7M. The datalink is certain on the AIM-7P Block 2, lofting is not. The AIM-7M (H build) only expands the pre-launch commands so that the missile has more information about target track prior to launch, allowing for quicker trajectory corrections and improved ECCM. There is no inertial guidance and mid-course corrections on any AIM-7M variant.
Now, regarding the future… the F-14D’s radar upgrade is considerably better than early F-15, and matches the early F-15E. The armaments are similar, and if the Phoenix is buffed to the proper ~20-25G and multi-plane maneuvering I think it will be more than on-par with later models of the legacy Eagle.
F-15C: Total kgf at mach 0.9 = ~28000kgf. Gross weight = just over 20,000kg.
F-14B/D: Total kgf at mach 0.9 = ~27000kgf. Gross weight = just over 27500kg.
Do not cite Wikipedia. I’m citing the game of WT itself for those thrust numbers. After all F-15’s engine is already in the game.
Compairing one of the major nations winrate to the winrate of JP in air battles is pretty disingenuous considering JP has always been a very high performing nation. The AJ is also arguably the best air to air F-16 in-game since it gets both SARH’s and the blk 10 airframe. Theres also the simple fact the US is always on both teams at this point so its winrate should tend towards 50%
IIRC, this was back when radar missiles were still nerfed into the ground and the F-14’s wings had a tendency to explode if your pilot sneezed. Seeing as its radar missiles are a central part of its armament, having them suck terribly doesnt help. In that time period (and even after it was fixed) many better players than any of us in this chat, such as Defyn, stated that things like the J-7E and MiG-23 MLD were comparable to or better than the F-14A due to their ease of use and reliability of their missiles.
As previously stated many times, the F-14’s have NEVER been easy planes to fly, and have consistently underperformed because of it.
Also, its a bit rich hearing you say the american playerbase is awful when the Russian playerbase is so bad they were giving the R-27ER on the MiG-29 within 3 days of it being added to the game, and its been the top jet in-game ever since
Even the F-14A has a T/W higher than 1:1 at optimal speeds generally across the board.

F100 has thrust growth at optimal speeds as well. If empty weight of F-15A is taken as 12,701 kg and maximum fuel is 6,103 kg, then maximum fuel(26 min) has TWR of 0.955 static and 1.61 optimal.
Yes, and with full ordinance (Sparrows are kinda heavy) it would be less than 1… I don’t see your point here because you wanted to make it seem as though it always has a >1:1 ratio… or at least that the F-14 has insufficient thrust for positioning and dogfighting which is simply not true.
Optimal isn’t going to go below 1 lol. Sparrows aren’t that heavy, 1000kg of sparrows and 400kg of sidewinder will only reduce TWR to 1.51. Not like F-14B doesn’t cart around ordnance as well(including fat and heavy Phoenix). Quit putting words in my mouth or others, the point is that F-15 will have superior TWR. Performance is always relative.
Also in practice the swing-wing F-14B will have less acceleration especially when it has wings swept forward, due to higher drag.
We guess gaijin plan consider F-15C (USAF), F-15J (JASDF) & F-15C “Akef” (IAF) after F-15A and F-15A Baz this year ?
And I’m not sure that dev consider F-15C, F-15J & F-15C “Akef” pre-MSIP or MSIP
would love to see the French f15a but that’s pushing it lol
lol You just proved it doesn’t, and Wikipedia still isn’t a source.
You even try to argue that Sparrows make F-14 & F-15 tooo heavy.
F-15 always has over 1:1 when at speed.
@oom1992 @Macekeeks We’re not getting F-15A. There’s no reason to.
And you guess first fighter aircraft with SARH BVR in rank VIII from Israel gaijin maybe consider F-15A Baz or F-15C “Akef” pre-MSIP ?
F-15C in order to add to 3 nations at once.
no not useless for France or Germany ???
