AIM-54 is good when you’re fighting an absolute idiot at long range.
Any other time it’s complete trash.

Sounds like the best thing to do is run a mix, because below 9km, youd probably be better off running a Aim-7
i can confirm, i had a shot i posted here where the missile when fired at a su30mkm flying a few 100 meters off the ground where the aim5c failed to reach mach 3 and could only pull a maximum of 8.4gs. i was at high altitudes and supersonic firing this, the missile activelly looses energy when turning and burning(this is the result of the weirdly low base thrust i wager) not running any sparrows cause then again why am i playing the f14 over the f15a?
