The F-14D Premium simply has an underwhelming missile loadout for BR 13.0.** The AIM-54C+ missiles are terrible — they feel slow, heavy, and ineffective. They perform poorly at long range, and at close range they are even worse.
At 13.0, this aircraft has to face jets like the Rafale, Mirage, Typhoon, and others equipped with much better missiles such as the AIM-120D or R-77-1, often combined with huge amounts of countermeasures. In that kind of matchmaking, this loadout just does not hold up.
The aircraft itself is actually very enjoyable to fly. It is a bit heavy, but it still feels good overall and can be fun in the right situation. The real problem is not the plane itself, but the fact that its weapons are simply not good enough for this BR.
I really hope this gets changed, because in its current state it is just frustrating to play. And no, this is not a skill issue — you can clearly see it in actual matches and in how badly it performs compared to its competition.
I am not saying the F-14D should be 12.7 or lower. I am saying that in its current state, its loadout does not feel competitive enough for what it has to face.
The aircraft itself is fine, but the weapons are the problem. If a plane sits at this BR, then its overall performance and loadout should actually match the opponents it regularly fights.
I understand the pain of 13.0, but calling the F14D underwhelming is insane. The issue isn’t its BR or its missiles, it’s just that high BR jets are too cluttered. The F-14D may be the strongest 13.0 jet, so the solution isn’t buffing it or decreasing its BR. The solution is making matchmaking fairer for all top-tier jets. Also, tip climb high, launch at 70km, and keep datalink while defending, and when your missiles hit, go back to base and try again, but be careful, the AIM-54 weighs 1000 lbs per missile, so drop them if you need to dogfight.
The missile loadout is super fine for 13.0, the problem is just whats waiting for you at 13.3 but that can only be solved by finally moving up the premium Su30s not by making the life of 12.7s even harder.
You’re right, I mixed it up and wrote that out of frustration. That still doesn’t change the fact that the F-14D stands out too much with its current loadout
