F-14 Tomcat: History, Performance & Discussion

IIRC, you can select 1 to 4 chaff/flare pops.

AN/ALR-39 has control panel at RIO seat, you can program how to dispense countermeasures.

An F-14D doing that same maneuver in 16 seconds. Shows the power of the DFCS and GE-F110s.

Edit: Messed up the numbers. Just below 20 seconds. I’ll try to find one better.

it would be nice to have it firing 1 of each and esp with the counter measure salvo (1-4 setting in matches u can change) can work as the control panel at RIO seat

Cool for the f14B I use the 3 bol pods 250 flare 220 chaff(the flare runs out faster then the chaff) and 60 regular flare because it shots one regular flare out then the bol pod flare and then it repeats

yak 141 got ers which it couldnt use so this would be fine

because it is a prototype aircraft

just like the kikka

if you complain about the yak you also have to complain about the kikka having a gun

I must voice my staunch opposition whenever the subject of equipping the F-14D with AMRAAMs.

My reasoning is that a properly implemented AIM-54, though still not a ‘dogfight’ missile, would be vastly good in a PvP situation. Furthermore, the AIM-54 is the very essence of the F-14.

yup.
And the:
Ho-229 using engines it never used.
Arado C3 Carrying bombs
XP-50 Having guns
J7W1 having guns

and that is okay becasue they are all prototype aircraft

i found F14A from 1988 with IRST system i think

it had a DOGFIGHT mode

That’s TCS

Yup

oh whats TCS do

This video explain.

We already have TCS for B models but, they also doesn’t model correctly.

I agree, but the Aim-120 kinda completes the F-14. The Sparrow isn’t as effective in the ranges that the AMRAAM are.

From 40-100km is where the Aim-54 shines.
From 5km to 40km is where the Aim-120 shines
From 0-5km is where the AIm-9 Shines.

Without the AMRAAM, it goes like this:

From 40-100km is where the Aim-54 shines.
From 5km to 19km is where the Aim-7 shines
From 0-5km is where the AIm-9 Shines.

It’s missing a very important chunk of the engagement ranges. 40-20km is where BVR in Warthunder is the most effective. So even though you’re right that the Aim-54 operating correctly would be great in PvP, having the AMRAAM to complement it seems even better.

Also it’s just freakin cool seeing a Tomcat with AMRAAMs.

In a 1v1 BVR engagement, one reason the F-14 isn’t dominant between 20-40km is the current absence of PAL (Pilot Automatic Lock-on) mode.

The AWG-9 radar on the F-14A/B was upgraded several times in the late 80s and 90s, and one of those upgrades was PAL. This is basically an ACM mode with a range of 27-30km(with P-STT, NOT PD-STT iirc), you can launch AIM-7 or AIM-54 from further out.

Moreover, a properly implemented AIM-54 would undoubtedly remain a threat even at 8-10km ranges(ofc sparrows and sidewinders are better at this range).

If you have a source for PAL, that could be a gamechanger if added.

Agreed.

Biggest problem is radar and weapons stuffs are written at NAVAIR -1A manual, which is actually classified afaik.

I don’t even know how Heatblur modeled PAL.
