The missile only “failed” once against a target with rocket engines who was already running away. It was a bad shot. The other 2 were failures of the ground crew, not the missile.
Who is bringing up modern missiles? He brought up the missile can’t be that bad in real life, I brought statistics saying it’s not, and you bring?? A fallacy?
it is not when used against planes with far worse avionics than what the planes have that the F-14 is fighting
guess what it is significantly harder to notch a missile with this:

instead of something like this:

To be fair even with bad avionocs in war thunder they will likely still miss.
Pretty sure if a prop.just goes cold and loses alt while doing a few 90degree turns they would miss.
In WT its basically just dont fly straight and you are good.
and why would a prop do that not knowing a phoenix was fired at it?
that is the point, you dont know if a phoenix is fired at you in stuff like the Viggen, Mirage 3 or Mig-23
Everyone else on team is cranking so just take it as pheonix is on its way
Next time ny friend plays im going to try. Im comvinced its going to be easy
the gamemode that isnt close to reality isnt reflecting reality
have you considered that IRL there arent ppl around you with markers and you flying the plane in 3rd person
that is the reason why there is a disconnect
go trying playing the Mig-23, Mirage F1 or Viggen in air sim against the F-14
True.
The whole 16 vs 16 with realism excuses all over the place actually kills the game/ balance
There are universal CM pods IRL. Imagine if there was a 16 vs 16 deathmatch- would countries retro fit CMs… or would it be cope with your 45?
But we’ve already established that’s false lmao. The F-14 and Phoenix being trailblazers has nothing to do with the fact that when peer to peer the 2 best fighters in the world had to “fight” each other they had to take out the Phoenix for it to be a fair fight. And the F-15 from 1974 largely has the same RWR of the 2020s, just upgraded along the way.
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s Tomcat Crews and the Phoenix in DACT generally weren’t to be joked around with by most contemporary aircrews. I remember 1 instance where a tornado F3 crew (with AMRAAMs) when interviewed said they were best equipped against Phoenixes in the whole region but still struggled to close in against Tomcats in “combat”. I guess they meant having the Phoenixes radar signature for a unique RWR name meant they were “well equipped”.
I’m not saying the Phoenix was some super weapon that outdid everything 40 years prior but acting like it was only good for sniping planes with no RWR is just simply inaccurate. There’s a reason MiG-25 crews went full speed into sparrow-equipped F-15A/Cs but always ran at the hint of a Tomcat.
Because it would be a waste of a long range missile. No matter if good, you just dont throw weaponry away
i was talking about WT
and you specifically mentioned the Iranian record with pheonixes
and most of the stuff they were fighting isnt even in the same match maker as the F-14 and if it can see the F-14 then only in a full downtier for the F-14A
i never said that
all the planes i listed as examples have RWRs
Competent Viggen pilot can determine what kind of missile is launched at him, if its SARH or ARH, if its PD radar or not. I’m not gonna go into details but these extra indicators at the bottom do have their purpose.

Its difficult ye. You’re better off just running away or multipathing
Except the Phoenix was effective within 6-20 miles which were the ranges the whole test was about??
Edit: Also they didn’t actually use real physical missiles against each other in ACEVAL you know that right??
Hyperbole. You know what I meant dude.
that is my point it is way harder to defend against a missile (not only the phoenix) when you have bad avionics
and as a result it is more likely that you make a mistake and then get hit by the missile
I’m not disagreeing just clarifying for the Viggens. Mirages (that you mentioned) unlike Viggens have barely any avionics at all so you are completely right.
the Mig-23 and Mig-21 are even worse off in that regard
Literally proves the point on the phoenix being good and advanced for its day and age.
What did the soviets had in the 70s as the maximum expression of soviet RWRs? SPO-5 AND SPO 10 equiped on the soviet counterparts.
https://youtu.be/ykQzoge1K9E?t=243&is=HAMb855-7afCwq8A Here is the SPO 10 in 1990 with the east germans. You can’t tell a thing from that, especially in a contested environment with tens of fighters and ground radars.
What did the soviets had in the 80s as the maximum expression of soviet RWR design? The SPO 15 and this is a slightly better pile trash. In the Mig 29 and su27, it was lit up by its own radar making it unusable as it was not connected with a blanking circuit lighting it up like a christmas tree. And mind you, the bulk of the warsaw airforces were composed of mig 21s and mig 23s till the end of the decade
90s, same thing probably.
and you completely missed the point
