So you contest the F-14B, but have no issue with the A which is only slightly worse in peak numbers despite the significantly worse engines???
Correction: i just noticed something wrong with this above spreadsheet, with the F-14A actually outperforming the F-14B at equal fuel. It may not be the most accurate.
Not sure why its size keeps coming up in discussions of its maneuvering performance tho lmao. As i already stated, the change in fuel load represents a ~15%+ increase in TWR (vs 20min load, closer to ~6% at 30min). This also represents a ~6% reduction in weight, and by extension a ~6% reduction in wing loading. You’re also, as ive stated, omitting the fact ideal rate figures in-game are using 0% wingsweep with manual control, while the graphs posted use automatic systems, which do not maximize sustained turn rates, AND downplaying the fact that the difference between 10000ft and 5000ft is already 2 deg/s on the graphs.
One person can’t play as pilot and RIO, it would open a pandoras pox of “realism” that takes away from gameplay and above all, fun.
All aspect missiles are a huge benefit, whatever way you look at it. The F-14B needs 9Ms (whatever variant) to be different and worth researching, otherwise the F-14A would just be a B but worse. Their BRs should be adjusted accordingly after that.
I don’t have the time (nor the willpower) to search through every page of this document but from what I can see it does say the all the tomcats used 9Ms but doesn’t really specify what variants
This is also from 2002 so some information may be missing
Since there are photos of both F-14s carrying the AIM-9M-8, it is probably fair to assume that they can carry all AIM-9Ms except the AIM-9M-10 and the Air Force model.
As per my suggestion, implementing RIO/WSO capabilities by just allowing 2 seaters to do mouse designated radar locks would be super easy, not require any new keybinds, and wouldnt take away from player agency…
Never said all aspect AAM’s wouldnt be a benefit, but the required increases in BR to compensate for the addition would be more harmful than helpful. Also, the B is substantially better than the F-14A, better RWR, better engines, better CM suite. They could have the same missiles and the B would still be worth researching.
You can already do this by putting the keybind on your mouse/controller and clicking. There is no allowed or not allowed
I’ve always been a proponent for the F-14s to be foldered, if the B is just an a but better nobody will play the A, thus making it so the B is worth 800,000 research points. There needs to be way more separation between the two than avionics. The AIM-9Ms could do that for it.

Nah, it would be pretty funny unless your RIO/friend has zero humour or usually has zero energy for engagements. I’d love to fly with my friends in the Tornados or F-14s and it wouldn’t take away much besides technically hindering you.
You’re right, because from what I can put together it looks like you want to be able to point your mouse at a target and lock it. Correct me if I’m wrong.
