yes 1.02 twr to 1.05 of the B
but you get IRST aim-9M you can now use data link sparrows due to the APG-71 radar ugrade and you have same range as F14B but you tracking is 3X better within that range as the APG-71 is a AWG-9 but the analouge hard ware is changed for digital hardware
so F14B gets slighty better F14D in DF but you get way better radar and a first US plane with IRST in tech tree so aura aim7p maybe aim120s not definte and AIM54 ECCM sealed late models that dont require coolant
Not really. The radar is really just the power of the AWG-9 with the modes of the APG-70 from the F-15E. They (hopefully) can’t mess it up. Along with that, it has basically the same RWR if not better, the IRST and TCS, etc…
Color + Higher Res photo of the F-14 carrying the Aim-120. Nice Livery. + The cherry on top to prove that the dual rack missile is a live missile and not a wooden dummy. NEW PHOTO
If you haven’t seen already, on weapon station 6 you can see what looks like an Aim-120 body mounted in place of the sparrow groove.
I’m looking for the holy grail though. Rumor has it that there was testing done on this plane to equip 8 AMMRAAMs in the tunnel of the aircraft posted on some Tomcat Forums. I don’t know if it’s true, but unless I see an F-14D devblog pop up, that’s what i’ll be working on until further notice.
This one (#158623) specifically is listed as an F-14A-65 (per MATS, #623 is additionally listed on CLI, and was at China lake for a time, documented to be there in '92), and is / was on display at NAS Point Mugu, by 2008 (Joe Baugher’s listing also agrees). They might know more about the aircraft in particular, or otherwise be better sourced.
Baugher’s F-14D article does list the Test airframes serials for the (Z)F-14D as being in the 16XXXX range, and the earliest of the -14D(R)s being Block 85’s not 65’s so I wouldn’t consider the case for a prospectively implemented -14D (or -14D(R)) to get AMRAAMs absolutely airtight, sure there is a lot of evidence as such. but unless images of a known -14D airframe turn up it’s not a slam dunk at this point though somewhat likely without further changes to the AIM-9, -7 or -54.
wasn’t it also a f14A with f14D equipment? also the D model was gonna be the only model equipped with araams the f14A/B were never gonna get them so I saw on a doc or article also anything the awg9 can do the apg71 can do better so I’m more then sure it more viable on the f14D than a f14A
I’d agree, its simply seeing if additional documentation could be turned up to limit Gaijin’s capability to reject a prospective report.
I’ve previously had a report for the addition of the GPU-5/A to the baseline F-15A rejected due to the image being of the prototype “F-15E”, which used an F-15B airframe as the basis for the conversion.
“The attached videos and photos show the F-15B-4-MC aircraft with tail number 71-0291, which is the prototype of the F-15E Strike Egale. This aircraft differs significantly from the single-seat fighter version of the F-15A.”
Even though additional documentation provided, specifically made reference to no changes being needed for the F-15 airframe.
Yeah if you just bought a premium and you’re under level 10… The same people who die to Fakours would die to an Aim-54, Aim-120, R-77-1 or even R-27ER. And more than half of those have way better stats than the Fakour.
I might’ve found it boys. Facebook is surprisingly a goldmine for high quality Tomcat shots. It’s also a goldmine for rare tomcat shots. I got this picture from there too!
But here’s the huge thing: This is possibly an R-73E mounted to an IRIAF F-14A
If you squint in the middle there (Station 1A), at the very least that’s not an Aim-9P. There’s no way. It’s also next to the Sedjeel in testing on 1B.
