Asides from F-4EJ, F-104S is another plane actively ruining the game experience.
F-4EJ is still the worse offender because it’s the only plane that can stay out of harms way and still rocket the base from afar.
Literally these two planes make it impossible for everyone else to bomb.
Pop in 10 to 12 BR Air RB and you’ll see these planes are spammed to the point it’s game over if you’re in an attacker like Tornado.
Some people may say but TIGER you bomb in fighters. Well of course I do, but my planes aren’t really much faster than others in a way the starfighter is, nor can I nuke bases from afar, out of harm of IRCCM/earlier SARH.
There’s only 4 bases. It is only fair that sometimes I don’t get them, so others can. But when the whole match is made of these planes that I mentioned, there’s little room for other planes.

F-4EJ is worse than its US/Israel counterpart F-4E in both A2A/A2G
Because it has worse missiles and RWR, which makes it worse in A2A
While it can’t bring lightweight napalm, which makes it a worse bomber in A2G.

I were a tornado enjoyer, as you know. So I usually dislike base bombing fighters. (I quit playing nowadays thanks to those Miggers)

As for the F-104S, you have to remember that there are two versions: one for air combat and one for ground attack. In the game, both are combined into a single model depending on the armament you choose. So, anyone using the F-104S as a bomber is simply employing it in a role it actually performed in real life. Therefore, there’s not much to complain about.
Instead, players should coordinate better by declaring targets and monitoring the progression of the match.

I still don’t understand why F-104G/S and planes like Phantom (multi-roles) get flak for doing what exactly they were designed for…

But as always people asking for the wrong thing. ^nerf this^ /^buff that^ … Ask for gameplay, ask for maps…ask for the game to evovle a bit.
In game classified all as fighters (MiG 27 is a fighter as well). It’s not that simple.
What i’d call ^realistic^ solution is to characterize everything according to its original role and give it income by it, while keeping the capabilities intact for other roles - in case you need to end the game.
Bombers / Deep strike planes (F-111/Su-24s/Tornado) -give them modifier for base bombing 2x , for tanks/GTs 1,3x and air targets 0,8x . When you have success in your primary mission (bases) you get a bonus .
CAS - Give them 2x for tanks/GTs , 1,3x for bases and 0,8x for air targets. Bonus every 10 primary targets (GTs) .
Superiority fighters - 2,2x air targets, 0,8x bases, 0,8 GTs. Give RP/SL bonus for fighter rescuer and if you kill something in proximity of your bombers/ CAS (proximity varies per BR/tier whatever).
Multirole fighters - 1,3x for air targets , 1,2x for GTs , 1,2x For bases. Bonus - kill 1 air target and 5GTs/or base (most people will go GTs - but having to kill an air target as takes them away from only focused to Ground) .
Interceptor - 2,2x for Air Targets , 0,5x for GTs and bases. Bonus : Kill 2x bombers /CAS (making them focus on those targets, makes them take attention from superiority fighters, which can be leathal).
And next thing?
Maps. Take away (not all) GTs and bases from the “dogfight area” / mid of the map. Spread them across the maps. Make 6 bases instead of 4.
Even these ideas are 3 steps ahead of what we need in first place: Effect to the battle. The higher the BR the more useless bombing becomes. In high tier there is zero effect to the battle outcome. So why you want reward players for actions hindering a team to win?
In first place the mechanic must change to bombing becomes a legit effect to win a battle. After that matchmaker must change to fair teams, so both teams have a chance to win on BOTH ways.
After all these changes we can discuss specific planes and loadouts and other stuff.
You woke up and choose to rant on the worst possible vehicles you could today. To be fair the F-104S TAF and the F-4EJ ADTW being used as bombers don’t surprise me, the F-104S TAF has some advantages as it has Napalm bombs.
In other hand the F-4EJ ADTW has only dumb bombs, which surprises me being only of the few Phantoms that doesn’t have this weapon, maybe in reference to the absolute dog water Japan’s close air support is.
If you don’t like why players using bad planes in air-to-air combat to air-to-ground is not my problem, because you’re wanting they play in a way that doesn’t make the experience any better. Base bombing is one of the few effective ways to research using these two vehicles.
As someone who was dumb enough to buy the TAF before it was up tiered I would ask, what else are you supposed to do with it now? It has rear aspect only IR missiles, very bad radar ones, with no look down radar, at the cost of the gun and at its current BR even its ONE redeeming feature, it’s speed, is useless as you will be caught as soon as you need to make the slightest turn or cut the afterburner to dodge a missile.
It’s frankly one of the few fighters that actually should be bombing because it might actually be useful in that role.
Its also the only top tier grinder Italy has, same goes for Japan (at least until next patch), but the F4 is at least a usable A2A aircraft unlike the TAF
