Expanded List of Indonesian Vehicles - Ground

.50 cal light vehicle would totally still work in 1.0, especially with BTR-40 Retrofit since it would be the equivalent of M2A2 but better (fully enclosed, smoke grenade, fast)

for AGL BTR-40 retrofit it would not completely hard to balance like the Maus problem, especially for fast light armored vehicle (which is META in game). yeah it’s low velocity with 240m/s and has no tracer but being a light tank in game mean a lot of time you would flank and hit the enemy close and this tank also would be urban map specialist like Abandoned factory or Advance to Rhine maps

Ultimately this is also another consideration, personally I dont think its necessary, plus it would be quite jarring for people to see a wheeled armored car from the late 90s fighting against what would be interwar-period tanks, with the defender its basically a truck cab with guns, so its less of an issue

I would argue the Stuart Recce is a better historical pick since we actually have it and used it in the mid 60s, but that doesn’t have a rotating turret I dont think

& Im still not convinced with the grenade launcher thing, maybe if Gaijin add vehicles like that so we can compare the performances in the future, but as things stand ill probably still going to omit them

i mean yeah lot of people jarred with the idea of modern vehicle in low BR but with the Gaijin doing now probably i doesn’t matter because keep in mind BTR-40 is armored car from the 50s and the only modern things in the BTR-40 Retrofit is the smoke grenade launcher and the engine, for AGL small AFV like BTR-40 Retrofit is the more logical platform for 40mm NATO AGL than other platforms i seen in the suggestion like AAVP-7 or Type 96 Wheeled APC.

if you want to know the rough idea what AGL can do in ground i suggest you to try one in the BMP-2M, it’s might be different (30mm Russian AGL has lower muzzle velocity than NATO 40mm HV grenade and no HEDP shell) but it’s actually not that bad for low tier.

though the base is correct, The rotating turret itself is a part of the modernization, as well as the modifications made to the hull to make it enclosed

BMP-2M only carries FRAG unfortunately so we cant compare it at this moment, and if we do compare it as things stand, it can barely break obstacles, and I’ve literally only gotten kills with it via its actual purpose, indirect fire against light-skinned targets (SPAAs basically)

But it is considered, and ill add it to the list if we do get some analogues in the future.

ehh i mean the gun handling, not toe-to-toe comparison. for 40mm HEDP in game it’s only available in American Heli (AH-1G, UH-1C XM 30 and AH-56A) but it’s based on M430 HEDP with 51mm pen instead of the improved M430A1 with 76mm pen.

other than that i found some footage of Improvised armor truck from pre Tsunami Aceh insurgency with M2 Browning that can be added as sidegrade/foldered with the Morris C8 Type 89

unknown truck version (Maybe Hino or Isuzu truck version)

both definitely could be added as BR 1.0 armored .50 cal milk truck

Got some suggestions currently in pending

1. Anoa PK20 which basically acts like the Type 87 RCV (P) but with thermals, or a smaller luchs A2
2. Sabiex AMX-13/105 Mle 51 Retrofit, this one is a lot more interesting. I'd suggest reading the background of the suggestion when it's approved in 5 months time (lmao)

but to give a brief explanation, this vehicle was from the Dominican Republic, brought by a Dutch Company, then brought back to Europe, then Sabiex obtained it & retrofitted it, then Indonesia trialed it, then it went back to Europe, then it was sold to a collector/restorer in the UK, now the vehicle is running and has appeared in The Tank Museum’s tank fest numerous times.

it can be easily identified by its large hydraulic fan housing above the engine, much larger compared to other AMX-13s as well as the oblong headlight housing. Additionally a small pole can be seen on the roof of the oscillating turret right above the main gun, which is a telltale sign of a Post-Civil war Dominican AMX-13s. Considering that Dominican Republic only has AMX-13/75s, it seems they’ve just modified the existing turret to fit the 105mm instead of replacing it.

EDIT:

Additionally im still researching on this AMX-13/105-57 retrofit testbed with RCWS (circa 2009-10). If anyone know more about this project & its details please let me know! (WARNING, PHOTO DUMP)

This tank modification was conducted by the Bengpuspal Puspalad (Central Equipment Workshop of the Army’s Equipment Center), so not PINDAD, adding this to the pile would result in 8 (+1 future) amx-13 variants that Indonesia could get in the game.

You could add one more potential variant of the AMX-13, re-engined with ISDE-285 made by Cummins Dongfeng China

I think the Poyaud engine is another variant, as well as this:

also retrofitted by Bengpuspal, but with a cummins engine from the original SOFAM one

including those three it would be a whopping 11 variants, which is bonkers

Potential as Premium, Tarantula with Camo netting, just like M1128 wolfpack

According to this source its Thai, not Indonesian

strangernn.livejournal.com

I think you need to rethink this source that state the Dodge WC 51 with Type 96 AA gun because the deeper you look, it doesn’t look like anything near Siamese army and people.

  1. The soldier in back of the truck wearing signature Indonesian revolutionary fighter side cap, Siamese army did not using those style of cap even during WW2 and shortly after the war
  2. The people in the photo doesn’t look nearly like Siamese, even the driver look more like average Javanese guy. (If you don’t know what typical Thai look like, just think mix of Batak and Chinese)
  3. Your source said this is a parade in Bangkok but the people in the crowd can be seen wearing kopiah, a signature hat from Indonesia and Malaya that hardly would be found in Siam, even a woman in the background can be seen wearing Batik skirt
  4. your source stated that the truck come from India or Australia but if they procured/captured from them why it still has US white star Insignia? for this Insignia US truck used by KNIL usually still has the insignia retained due to rushed use by the Dutch and White star insignia also adopted by the Indonesian Independence fighter while in Siamese army those insignia would not be used (because they not the usual national marking insignia).

Alright I guess, ill include it in the list.

After further looking from the original source there’s also a reply from 2013 that mentions the image has been going round the ID forums as well, so the source is clearly disputed

yeah i think it’s better to avoid russian language forum as a source for a while especially if the topic about something not from eastern block, because even in Enlisted forum a lot of dubious thing come from russian language forum/web (The most famous one is Beta C-mag and Helical mag PPSh-41) , especially if it short, has lot of mistake and no source.

Good points there, I also wanted to add that Thai military vehicles used Thai numerals instead of Arabic numerals for their number plate, while I could see that the truck has the number 175

Additional news:
Line of Contact’ Update Trailer / War Thunder

Infantry now coming to War Thunder, if it’s going to be like Battlefield franchise there is a chance that we might can do suggestions for Infantry small arms from Indonesia.
but that just assumption from most people’s in Forum and Reddit. if not well then it’s would just be Enlisted for modern age.

hey you didn’t add Pindad Cobra 105 because you though it’s just a mockup right?
guess what, i found the footage of manned Pandur II 105 TNI-AD in formation parade in what i think is Pindad factory or cavalry base.

the gun is the issue.

Pandur FSV uses the Cockerill 3105 turret

notice on the base of the turret there are rivets surrounding a circular gap, this is to accomodate the recoil of the gun.

Here’s an actual CT-CV105 cannon barrel, different turret but the same gun, still has the rivets

notice the Harimau, which uses the same type of turret as the pandur (Cockerill 3105) also has that circular inner cutout for the recoil & the rivets

Meanwhile, here’s how the gun looks like in game, still has that same rivets (CTCV105 left, Boxer MGS Cockerill 3105 Right)

Again, the same. Now lets compare it to the Pandur

Example 1

Example 2

Example 3

this one you can zoom in to see, compare the Harimau’s gun in the background (LEFT) to the Pandur (Right)

Example 4

Example 5

in this example the muzzle brake itself isnt even fitted correctly

notice that in those examples, especially example 4, the circular base of the barrel always looks flushed & without the rivets.

rough drawings of the differences (left is actual 3105, right is the pandur's)

another tell tale sign is this: it is ALWAYS, in the exact same position, looking forward, slightly upwards. Not one image of the turret is in any other position other than that. If it was real then surely there must be some variation?

here’s an actual footage of a real cockerill 3105 turret with the gun installed in PINDAD’s facility elevating (timestamp= 1:13). notice how its not flushed

Funnily enough this pseudo cannon was also the same one used on the Harimau MT back in Indodefence 2018, the one inside the venue is an actual gun with the rivets & everything, but the one outside isnt.
