FlightGlobal asked [Dong Haik Shin] about recent reports that Indonesia will order 16 KF-21s.
He confirms that Indonesia has paid its share of development costs for the KF-21. He indicates that deep discussions are underway with Indonesia about the initial 16 aircraft, with total Indonesian orders possibly coming to 48 jets.
Should a confirmed deal emerge, the jets would be produced by KAI in South Korea, but Indonesia will also have industrial participation.
Early plans for the programme had called for Indonesia to produce 48 examples of a special IF-X variant domestically.
Indonesia is familiar with KAI’s aircraft. It recently received six additional T-50I advanced jet trainers from the company, bringing its total fleet to 22 aircraft. It also operates 20 KT-1 basic trainers.
in essence, Its not 100% there yet as its still being discussed, but if it were to go ahead then it would be 16x units as part of the initial order, and a possible increase of up to 48 as an option. Industrial participation there could mean that ID would make components for the jet
honestly putting news of this is kinda useless since its basically boils down to “we’re in discussion” and nothing more. But it is a new interview so might as well put it here

same for the Su-35M and the export version of the Su-35S is just called Su-35
and for the J-10C the export name is J-10CE

IIRC, the guy behind Lembaga Keris on Facebook also said sometime ago that the amount of Su-35 planned to be procured is around half of a squadron, so this is another confirmation.

EDIT: I couldn’t find Keris comment from last year about half a dozen Su-35, so we have to wait and see

Any info of when or will Indonesian Rafale even get their IRST?

most likely 2027-2028
presumably it didnt receive the IRST since its primary job for this year is to train ID pilots on the jet
(same reason why only mockup missiles were presented, not actual ones like the hammer)

Maybe at the same time that we’ll get our live Meteor missiles. TNI-AU usually are pretty strict with publicizing their equipment, so unless they showed it themself or someone leaked it, we’ll never know.
And, since we don’t have the missiles yet, why would you need the IRST anyway?

because IRST is quite important when dealing with 5th gen as a 4th gen and Indonesia is surrounded by 5th gen users.
so it’d be a big fumble if it’s not equipped for the Rafale lol
I think what he meant is that we dont even have the missiles currently , so an IRST wouldnt be useful for anything since the missiles hasnt arrived yet

Because at the moment, the Rafales does not have the means to engage in air-to-air combat (as they don’t have air-to-air missiles), what use is the IRST?
We don’t even know when the Rafales will achieve IOC status, let alone FOC and being combat capable. We just have to wait and see.
